Please help me make a mixtape of songs w/ reeeaaaally droney synths

I truly don't mean for this to turn into one of those masturbatory lists but rather a legitimate source of suggestions for this mix I wanna make. So far (think among the lines of):

Lacquer - "Behind" (best example I have so far, esp. the first minute)
Justice - "One Minute to Midnight" (like around 1:04 especially)
Ellen Allien - "Your Body is My Body"

I'd like to stick to more electronic-y stuff but will probably end up throwing in spz/spacemen 3 or suicide. Help?

I was thinking more like Tribes of Neurot. I can't digest Justice.

cs appleby (cs appleby), Friday, 3 November 2006 07:20 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah yeah, but it's a really good song. And yeah I'm trying to steer clear of soundscape/Merzbow territory. Although I might throw in Spectrum's "Pulse Drone (Neon Sigh)" because it's just so damn good.

Midimiliz : No Alibi (Live At Transit)
Agoria: Organic
A Number Of Names: Shari Vari (The Hacker and Vitalic Remix)
Britney Spears: Breathe On Me (James Holden Vocal Mix)

that sort of thing?

PRKLTR (flezaffe), Friday, 3 November 2006 11:05 (eighteen years ago)

^ all based on the Ellen Allien track bcz thats the only one i got here

PRKLTR (flezaffe), Friday, 3 November 2006 11:07 (eighteen years ago)

here, this'll make sense:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxCUlvEkQDg (the Lacquer song which is pretty much the basis for it all)
and One Minute To Midnight is on Hype Machine (but i don't know if i can post a direct link...)

"no escape" by cabaret voltaire.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 3 November 2006 11:30 (eighteen years ago)

so youre looking for dance tracks with one long synth drone in the background? ...

David Carretta: Pop Et Synthetique
Vapourspace: Gravitational Arch Of 10
Mike Dearborn: Deviant Behaviour (Instrumental Mix)
Tekel: Cif
Hemmann + Kaden: Sense

PRKLTR (flezaffe), Friday, 3 November 2006 11:42 (eighteen years ago)

I don't know if this is really along the same lines of the stuff you are looking for, but after about eight bars the irritating hoover-y synth line in Li'l Jon's "Snap Your Fingers" begins to feel like some technologically-aided distillation of pure obnoxiousness. Maybe not pleasant, but surely it counts as droney?

exactly, where it sounds like someone's just holding a key down for like a minute (or entire song)

less-than three's Christiane F. (drowned in milk), Friday, 3 November 2006 17:18 (eighteen years ago)

"Heads" by Medicine.

Dear Cafes of London (kate), Friday, 3 November 2006 17:42 (eighteen years ago)

(Actually, the drone on that may be processed feedback, rather than synth, but it's still rather Suicide)

Dear Cafes of London (kate), Friday, 3 November 2006 17:43 (eighteen years ago)

'Le Fil' by Camille has the same drone through every track on the record.

two 2006 singles on eletronnica romana:
modern heads - treatment 1 (donato dozzy version)
giorgio gigli - rarefied atmosphere (lee vandowski mix)

both are basically just techno drone songs, good for staring, spacing out, doing work

but my fave drone is an untitled track by a band called Fosen, i think from mid-90s or so. ten minutes of god exhaling, no beats or anything, just different shades of the same chord. I can sendspace later today

Dominique (dleone), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 16:51 (eighteen years ago)

whoops, I missed the spz reference in the opening message... :-/

You've Got Scourage On Your Breath (Haberdager), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 16:55 (eighteen years ago)

the artist is actually NNC, Dom. CD was titled Fosen. credited to Brønlund/Mikkelborg. Agreed, absolutely superb drone.

Ghost Bear Junior High Attendance Party (Ghost Bear Junior High Attenda), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 17:13 (eighteen years ago)

thanks, I've had nothing but trouble finding info on it

Dominique (dleone), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 17:16 (eighteen years ago)

Jack DeJohnette: "Aho"

(Yeah, most of the time he is a jazz drummer, but this is certainly what you're looking for.)

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 17:21 (eighteen years ago)

Pete Namlook's early nineties albums had a lot of cool drones, but can't think of any off the top of my head.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 17:26 (eighteen years ago)

NNC - untitled track 1 from Fosen

Dominique (dleone), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 00:05 (eighteen years ago)

Not that I want this thread locked, but how come my thread (Which was a plead for help making a mixtape of songs w/ reeeaaaally obvious sex sounds) was locked, while this one isn't?

No List November is retodded.

Zachary Scott (Zach S), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 00:17 (eighteen years ago)

bo'tox, 'hummer party' - amazing droney house track. haven't really heard anyone hit a similar sound to this (essentially spacemen 3 go disco). cosmo vitelli is in this group, IIRC.
