I'm not suggesting this is a list thread by any means, but what are some things about music?

Scorpion Tea (Dick Butkus), Sunday, 5 November 2006 23:35 (eighteen years ago)

it is like television but you can only hear it

You've Got Scourage On Your Breath (Haberdager), Sunday, 5 November 2006 23:44 (eighteen years ago)

It's like smells but it comes in through your ears rather than your nose.

mei (mei), Sunday, 5 November 2006 23:56 (eighteen years ago)

It's like sexual intercourse, but where the sound is the penis and your earhole is the vagina

Tiki Theater Xymposium (Bent Over at the Arclight), Monday, 6 November 2006 00:12 (eighteen years ago)

So, would it be anything like breathing, if the air was music and lungs the reception thereof?

Scorpion Tea (Dick Butkus), Monday, 6 November 2006 00:27 (eighteen years ago)

People here love it...or so they claim.

Nathan P1p (hoyanathan), Monday, 6 November 2006 00:29 (eighteen years ago)

zzz

PRKLTR (flezaffe), Monday, 6 November 2006 00:30 (eighteen years ago)

I fills in the silences in between gurning, for fun.

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Monday, 6 November 2006 00:33 (eighteen years ago)

That's the thing about music, it wouldn't be like any of those. Maybe smells, if you're inside a kitchen.

blunt (blunt), Monday, 6 November 2006 00:34 (eighteen years ago)

I'd have to say like sex. Only without the possibility of disease. Actually, no, music addiction is a disease... Throw me in the nutter.

Andi Headphones (Andi Headphones), Monday, 6 November 2006 03:40 (eighteen years ago)

It has notes and words and stuff, unless it doesn't have words. It might not have very many notes, but will generally have at least one. Nobody knows quite what it's for, but most people seem to like it. Your dad says it's just noise, and technically he's right.

chap who would dare to welcome our new stingray masters (chap), Monday, 6 November 2006 04:26 (eighteen years ago)

nose music forever!!!!!!

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Monday, 6 November 2006 04:31 (eighteen years ago)

It has that which becomes, rather than that which is.

ramon fernandez (ramon fernandez), Monday, 6 November 2006 04:34 (eighteen years ago)

It's like farting, except your speakers are the "buttcheeks."

A-ron Hubbard (Hurting), Monday, 6 November 2006 05:28 (eighteen years ago)

this folkways "sounds of buttcheecks" lp is beating the shit out of almost every drone record i have heard

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Monday, 6 November 2006 05:43 (eighteen years ago)

It's like when you go to a really good Italian restaurant craving a giant steaming bowl of gnocchi with melted buffalo mozzarella and freshly grated parmigiano-reggiano, and you very kindly ask the waiter for extra garlic bread because it's so good, and then you order a Shirley Temple because you're taking seizure medication and can't drink alcohol and you turn to your friend Shirley and make a funny joke about your drink because it's name is Shirley too. She laughs politely but you know deep down she truly is not amused.

And then you talk to Karen about the weather and about life and about how her new vibrator's really annoying because it's cheap and the plastic seam keeps chafing her vagina and she doesn't like it. Karen doesn't like gnocchi and simply requested a small side salad with cranberry vinaigrette. She would rather have Thousand Island but knows that this Italian restaurant doesn't have very good Thousand Island dressing.

And you wait and wait and ponder and think about how much fun you had kicking those Asian kids' asses at that new GY!BE DDR arcade machine they just got at the mall, and how you delighted in their reactions when you shattered each and everyone one of their high scores. You would have played longer but you ran out of tokens, and only had a $20 in your wallet because you got hungry earlier and wasted the $6 you had on a Gotta Have It-sized chocolate-banana-Reese's-cup ice cream from Cold Stone Creamery.

And then when the gnocchi comes that asscat of a waiter drops it and it spills all over the floor and in slow motion your hands fly to your mouth as you wait for the inevitable flying-up of the several extra pieces of garlic bread that you so very painstakingly requested, only to notice that there is no flying garlic bread, but only the swearing of a nearby patron about the asscat of a waiter dropping his fresh plate of gnocchi with soy cheese which is disgusting, and before you can process any of this another very handsome waiter in even slower motion steps over the yucky mess with YOUR steaming plate of gnocchi, the plate filled to the brim with slices of the most delicious smelling garlic bread you have ever smelt in your entire life.

And then, with more anticipation than you have ever felt in your entire life, you begin to devour the steaming plate of gnocchi. Luckily Karen wants none because she still doesn't like gnocchi.

this is music.

I just inspired myself to backwardsize "Voodoo Ray" in Audacity and it sounds sooooo reallly reaaaaally fucking cool, esp since gerald simpson layered reversed vocals all over the place so it's like these crazy backwards fragments with normal vocals. Everyone go in and C4YRSLF

less-than three's Christiane F. (drowned in milk), Monday, 6 November 2006 06:44 (eighteen years ago)

buffalo mozarrella is the best kind of fresh moz.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Monday, 6 November 2006 06:46 (eighteen years ago)

this is that thing I was telling you guys/lfamular to do when you play Cheese Chicken

less-than three's Christiane F. (drowned in milk), Monday, 6 November 2006 06:55 (eighteen years ago)

I have to admit this is the BEST Cheese Chicken music EVAR (which spelled backwards is RAVE which, Scorpion Tea, is also music).

less-than three's Christiane F. (drowned in milk), Monday, 6 November 2006 06:56 (eighteen years ago)

the female "ah, yeah" vox sound the same!

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Monday, 6 November 2006 07:01 (eighteen years ago)

wait, the "voodoo ray" sample sounds not-backwards, too!

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Monday, 6 November 2006 07:02 (eighteen years ago)

I actually put a reversed track on top of a non-reversed track and offset the backwards track's backbeat to fall on the off-beat of the forward one. I wonder if it's palindromic? That would be so rad. But yeah even when it's just the reversed track by itself the "ah, yeah"s are the same. Quote from AGCG's website:

"I got her to sing something over the top of the beat I was doing and laid her singing over the track down on one channel, grabbed one bar of her vocal and played it backwards over the same time as the forward singing. It created a really hypnotic effect - she kind of swam in and out of the acid sound."

There's an 808 State/Acid House Facebook group I joined today, which was refreshing considering not one fucking person at Rutgers - The State University of New Jersey had "808 State" listed under "Music".

less-than three's Christiane F. (drowned in milk), Monday, 6 November 2006 07:10 (eighteen years ago)

"Ah Yeah" is sort of a sonic palindrome.

A-ron Hubbard (Hurting), Monday, 6 November 2006 07:13 (eighteen years ago)

Whoa so the "heyyyaa, ooh-HUH" is just the "ooooh, ah-hah yeah" backwards. that's weird; i never realized that.

It's not A-ron coz the "ah yeah" backwards is... well, i just said it.

less-than three's Christiane F. (drowned in milk), Monday, 6 November 2006 07:17 (eighteen years ago)

I am soooo dubplating this forwards/backwards mix and becoming a DJ just to try it out in a set and see how people respond.

less-than three's Christiane F. (drowned in milk), Monday, 6 November 2006 07:19 (eighteen years ago)

let us know when and where

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Monday, 6 November 2006 07:38 (eighteen years ago)

still doesn't explain the "voodoo ray" palindromic effect

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Monday, 6 November 2006 07:38 (eighteen years ago)

ok so the first vocal sounds you hear in "Voodoo Ray (Original 12" Mix)" are the "eyyah-uh-ey-eyyahh, eyyah uh-HUHH" which is actually the word "yeah" backwards and fragmented.

The next thing is "eyyah uh-HUHH, UHHH huh-haayeahh". I believe the "UHHH huh-haayeahh" is what the chick sang, and then reversed it's the "eyyah uh-HUHH"; if you listen to the "eyyah uh-HUHH, UHHH huh-haayeahh" backwards it sounds exactly the same.

less-than three's Christiane F. (drowned in milk), Monday, 6 November 2006 07:54 (eighteen years ago)

but the sample of gerald saying "voodoo ray" still comes through! it must be voodoo

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Monday, 6 November 2006 08:12 (eighteen years ago)

b/c she layered the reversed track on top of the real one. right? christiane i think its totally playable.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Monday, 6 November 2006 08:16 (eighteen years ago)

ps what is a gy!be ddr machine???

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Monday, 6 November 2006 08:18 (eighteen years ago)

man, Oz makes for some fucking great gay porn.

butt dickass, music is like porn for your ears if it's really good ("Voodoo Ray") or elderly rape if it's really bad (Sugar Ray).

He, not she (Christiane F is this really goofy german prostitute/minimal house chick; less-than three = <3). And yes, I layered the reversed track on top of the real one; the non-reversed "Voodoo ray" is the real track comin thru.

It's actually "voodoo rage" but the sampler's memory could only fit in the "ray" part of "rage"

music is like a butt that you can sit around on, but it's also detachable, so you can take it off and sniff it or spank it or even fuck it. but then sometimes it poops all over you and you're like "wtf butt". wtf music, indeed.

lookin' in my mirror, not a Jagger in sight (sixteen sergeants), Monday, 6 November 2006 20:06 (eighteen years ago)

I love how this turned into a thread about "Voodoo Ray".
