Probably my favorite 'new' band is years. I guess the 'search' function is supremely fucked forever so I'm not sure if we've talked about them before, but they rule indisputably.

Wand Milius (Roger Fidelity), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 15:01 (nineteen years ago)

i agree! i have the sangles redux and every time i hear it i can't believe it.

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 15:07 (nineteen years ago)

What I've heard from this record (two songs) totally caught me off guard and I mean that in the best way.

mcd (mcd), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 15:12 (nineteen years ago)

The obvious touchstone is classic era Trux - who's complaining?? - but also tows the Taiwan Deth / Tan as Fuck swamp junk line and just general good time, youth gone wild, Bangin' in Little Rock style raunch. Also reminds me in some ways of the way underrated Jacknife - remember them?

The newest LP - Invasive Exotics I think it's called - is all i'm listening to.

Wand Milius (Roger Fidelity), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 15:19 (nineteen years ago)

could you define classic era Trux

rizzx (rizzx), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 15:21 (nineteen years ago)

speaking of taiwan deth, what can you tell us about them? me and my friends liked tan as fuck a lot but taiwan deth seems a lot more obscure.

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 15:32 (nineteen years ago)

rizzx - well, to me, all the eras of Trux are classic, but IJ remind me more of the first s/t album thru the third s/t album, including Twin Infinitives

Taiwan Deth are very similar to TAF, but mostly just a duo, and with a slightly more freakjazz sensibility. Very good!

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 15:37 (nineteen years ago)

royal trux has several classic eras but in this case it's first twin infinitives era where there's a resemblance.

wndrfl rnbw (wndrfl rnbw), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 15:38 (nineteen years ago)

oops
yeah what he said

wndrfl rnbw (wndrfl rnbw), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 15:38 (nineteen years ago)

cool, thats what i wanted to hear. gonna start up slsk tonight

rizzx (rizzx), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 15:51 (nineteen years ago)

i've only heard one of their songs, featured on our new sponsor. it's the jam.

like murderinging (modestmickey), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 15:54 (nineteen years ago)

The album title is fantastic, too.

mcd (mcd), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 16:12 (nineteen years ago)

er, I don't even like royal trux and I dig Indian Jewelry. They're great live, real fonky.

tremendoid (tremendoid), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 17:30 (nineteen years ago)

meant to start this thread but I forgot! when I did a search the only mentions of Indian Jewelry were on Roger Fidelity's Rolling Holy Shit Thread so there ya go.

they seem to use a lot more electronics than most of the Trux I've heard. Invasive Exotics is awesome. some of the stuff like "Come Closer" is almost like a really really dark Broadcast song (Tender Buttons era) (less pop, more grind). "Going South" and "Lost My Sight" have that repetitive Throbbing Gristle or Cabaret Voltaire thing going ... great album ...

dmr (Renard), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 18:20 (nineteen years ago)

they are touring with Psychic Ills

dmr (Renard), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 18:20 (nineteen years ago)

Don't know a damn thing about them, other than the fact that their name annoys me to no end. But the two songs I've heard (downloaded about six/eight weeks ago from someblogorother) absolutely friggin' rule. I do hear what I'd call "classic era" Trux in 'em, and I'd define that as a combination of the fucked-up but instinctively RIGHT ON song stuff from the second self-titled LP and the blown-out skyward noise rituals of Twin Infinitives. Bluesy, shambling, romantic, noisy and psychedelic as hell.

A million, million, MILLION times better than Psychic Ills.

Adam Beales (Pye Poudre), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 22:17 (nineteen years ago)

Indian Jewelry was playing at the live/work/performance space I lived at the night that I decided I had had enough of living there and after two years of it I was moving out. It had less to do with the band themselves than other events that nite, but I started looking for apartments the next morning. I'll always associate thier sound with that feeling of "after two years, i'm through with this nonsense."

Great Fucking Band though.

researching ur life (grady), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 23:27 (nineteen years ago)

i do not know what happened to my indian jewelry. i think i should take another look at the old external hard drive tonight.

trees (treesessplode), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 01:38 (nineteen years ago)

A million, million, MILLION times better than Psychic Ills

DINS is prety good!!

dmr (Renard), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 05:29 (nineteen years ago)

I tried ever so hard to get into Dins. Really I did. And it's a pleasant record, don't get me wrong. But it ain't a compelling one. Just a nice drony, woozy atmosphere - goes well with cheap red wine, unscented candles and your younger potheads. Wants so damn bad to be Spacemen Three, but lacks the sick tension and super malignant energy that makes Perfect Prescription work so well.

It's not enough to sound vaguely like other stuff that once sounded amazing. You have to bring something truly unique and amazing of your own to the table. I don't think they do. At least not yet...

Adam Beales (Pye Poudre), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 16:30 (nineteen years ago)

I think there's more of a pulse to their music than SM3. Saw them supporting the Planet the. Really tasty. Whipped the headliner's ass. Not that it was too difficult.

Elmyr de Hory (Elmyr), Saturday, 11 November 2006 05:17 (nineteen years ago)

are some of the songs on invasive exotics new versions of old songs or what? (some songs have same titles, etc)

T. Weiss (Timmy), Monday, 13 November 2006 01:15 (nineteen years ago)

three months pass...
oh, i just realized that 'flesh is floating' is about aguirre, der zorn gottes! eureka

lfam, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 20:23 (eighteen years ago)

Still love this record. Gets more play in 2007 than almost anything else that I might have called a favorite in '06.

Pye Poudre, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 20:27 (eighteen years ago)

my 3rd eye makes me shine like jury

PappaWheelie V, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 20:31 (eighteen years ago)

saw them live in December, they were good ... completely black stage, strobes, fog, Texas flags etc .... heavy.

although after the first hour or so it turned into one of those shows where you're like, "is it over? I think they're breaking down their stuff ... but the sound is still on .... oh wait two people are still on stage .... but I can't tell if they're doing anything ... hmmm maybe they are ... or is the PA just feeding back ... was that an encore?"

dmr, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 20:33 (eighteen years ago)

that's how you're supposed to open a show, not end it

lfam, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 20:56 (eighteen years ago)

well they were the 2nd of three bands on the bill so the noise was sort of meant to keep everyone occupied while psychic ills set up ... but in the end psychic ills came out while some of the indian jewelry dudes were still on stage ... they played "january rain" and fucked around with some ring modulator type shit for 20 mins and then the house lights came up. lol

first half of the indian jewelry set was great though

dmr, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 21:08 (eighteen years ago)

one year passes...

going to see this band tonight w excepter.

oscar, Friday, 25 April 2008 00:58 (seventeen years ago)

nice! I like what I've heard of their new stuff

dmr, Friday, 25 April 2008 01:26 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, they got something. Need to get around to actually listening to the new album I admit.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 25 April 2008 01:32 (seventeen years ago)

yeah it seems with the new record they've toned down the dark aspect of their music, a bit more melodic perhaps ?

oscar, Friday, 25 April 2008 01:56 (seventeen years ago)

CALLING ALL GEIRS

Ned Raggett, Friday, 25 April 2008 02:16 (seventeen years ago)

haha

oscar, Friday, 25 April 2008 02:24 (seventeen years ago)

two weeks pass...

saw them last night at Cake Shop, they were great .... playing in Brooklyn next week at Death By Audio, anybody who missed it should go .....

dmr, Friday, 9 May 2008 17:34 (seventeen years ago)

knitting factory show I saw a year ago when they had like eight people on stage was probably better but last night was still hot.

dmr, Friday, 9 May 2008 17:35 (seventeen years ago)

Missed 'em a couple weeks back, but, like dmr says, they were fantastic about a year-and-a-half ago. Looking forward to the new one, as IE's holding in there as one of my favorite records of the last few years. Hope the darkness hasn't been scaled back too much.

contenderizer, Friday, 9 May 2008 17:51 (seventeen years ago)

P.S. They were/are fantastic in the footage I've seen. Haven't seen 'em live yet.

contenderizer, Friday, 9 May 2008 18:28 (seventeen years ago)

LOUD. LOUD. LOUD.

QuantumNoise, Friday, 9 May 2008 19:33 (seventeen years ago)

AWESOMELY LOUD.

QuantumNoise, Friday, 9 May 2008 19:33 (seventeen years ago)

nonstop strobelight and echo assault

dmr, Friday, 9 May 2008 19:53 (seventeen years ago)

they're playing here tomorrow but I don't think I'm gonna make it. maybe.

Edward III, Friday, 9 May 2008 20:45 (seventeen years ago)

Whoa...I LOVED Invasive Exotics but this new one just blows it away...zero filler (with the exception maybe of one little squiggly interlude), MUCH denser + exponentially improving on repeat listens.

I had it on my heavier, curly-cord Sennheisers yesterday while hacking through (and from the inside of) our equally dense/overgrown forsythia, in full yellow bloom...it was all slithy toves and mome raths and shit, sometimes you just luck right into it!

Hadrian VIII, Thursday, 15 May 2008 15:36 (seventeen years ago)

i only have free gold but it's good

am0n, Thursday, 15 May 2008 15:39 (seventeen years ago)

anyone know anything bout / heard the new indian jewelry lp only relese fake and cheap

t. weiss, Thursday, 15 May 2008 17:39 (seventeen years ago)

hadn't heard about that one! the other release that's around is "We Are the Wild Beast" which I think is a repress of a pre-Invasive Exotics record. the one track I heard from it I didn't like as much as IE or Free Gold.

dmr, Thursday, 15 May 2008 17:45 (seventeen years ago)

. playing in Brooklyn next week at Death By Audio, anybody who missed it should go .....

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Thursday, 15 May 2008 19:10 (seventeen years ago)

Any US distros carrying this?

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Thursday, 15 May 2008 20:32 (seventeen years ago)

am0n, Friday, 16 May 2008 02:14 (seventeen years ago)

oh sirry, lp can be bought here: http://www.normanrecords.com/records/97800

t. weiss, Friday, 16 May 2008 02:28 (seventeen years ago)

or http://www.deletedart.org/releases.asp?show=releases&view=dltd022

t. weiss, Friday, 16 May 2008 02:29 (seventeen years ago)

Thanks weiss, but those are both UK based. I'd almost be willing to pay the $20 USD it'd cost if it weren't for the fact that I'd get hammered on shipping costs as well...$35 is a bit too much, stimulus check notwithstanding...

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Friday, 16 May 2008 05:28 (seventeen years ago)

there's a track of it on the <a href="http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=13087960";>deleted art myspace</a> which doesn't sound that exceptional (at least compared to their best).

t. weiss, Friday, 16 May 2008 20:32 (seventeen years ago)

whoops here

t. weiss, Friday, 16 May 2008 20:38 (seventeen years ago)

Pfork huh-wha? on so many levels

"Someone should buy Indian Jewelry...anything to ensure that someone cracks a smile during the band’s next recording session. Or more importantly, the next time someone listens to their record because "Free Gold!" is entirely too weighted, unliftable both emotionally and sonically."

Hadrian VIII, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 12:08 (seventeen years ago)

EMOTIONALLY UNLIFTABLE

Hadrian VIII, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 12:08 (seventeen years ago)

lol u read pitchfork

am0n, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 15:35 (seventeen years ago)

downlifting

sexyDancer, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 15:36 (seventeen years ago)

entirely too weighted

fuckin HEAVY maan

dmr, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 18:36 (seventeen years ago)

one month passes...

P-fork is RONG, this new record is ruling my world. Anybody else hear some heavy TG/PTV influence in their dirty guitar sound and swirly sound?

sleeve, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 19:53 (seventeen years ago)

yes, i felt they was channeling Thurston Gourd as well
