Mogwai - "Zidane: a 21st Century Portrait OST" - What's the verdict?

Anyone heard this yet? Any good?

I've only heard '7.25' and 'Wake Up And Go Berserk' on thier myspace page and it strikes me as being a low key affair in comparison with the last two albums.

I missed the Zidane film's short run but I've heard good things about it, so talk about that here too if you like.

I haven't listened to the myspace tracks yet, because I'm too lazy, but I would have thought a Zidane performance would almost necessitate a series of quiet, restrained pieces.

Indeed, though from reviews it would appear the 30 minute final track ends with noisy industrial, um, noise. What I've heard doesn't sound anything like Mr Beast, if anything it's pre-CODY (not a bad thing).

I'll see if Monsieur le Fopp has this at lunchtime, otherwise I'll order online. The Zidane DVD comes out in January.

I got this the other day - I've always been a big fan of the quieter Mogwai stuff and this is up there with the best of that.

OTM. This is like the early Mogwai stuff again, but without the loud bits. And that hidden track, wow... drone-loop-Swans-Coil-type stuff, very nice indeed.

When I saw the movie, I kept expecting the music to get LOUD, and that doesn't really happen until Zizou loses his temper (I'm guessing this is the hidden noise track that you speak of). The loudest thing about the movie is the crowd at the Bernabeu - when the game is about to start, there's an abrupt cut to the stadium and the noise is deafening.

...or not so much deafening as devastatingly loud in comparison to what preceded it.

Possibly the best album title ever, for one thing. Almost a shame the film exists!

Henrik Larsson: a 21st Century Portrait would probably be more Mogwai's style. :)

I wonder how they'd turn his grotesque shin-snapper into a song...

WAHT

d'you reckon them Barcas stick Rock Action on in the dressing-room at half-time to psyche themselves up?

(could've made a Mr. Beast joke, but didn't think of it in time)
