The sitar and the guitar work in a sublime twinng, then the english voice that talks about the girl who got away, the empty apartment and the talking, how this one event in the life of a man get s recorded with such sublime instruments, it reminds me of wiliam carlos williams , with a delicate and subdued jangle. The man of lesiure languidly drinking seducing a working girl with her exoticsm . Its my favorite beatles tune by far.

This is backstory not in the song itself, but didn't Lennon say that he just put in the line about having slept in the bath to pull the proverbial wool over cynthia's eyes? 'writing a song about cheating on my wife without my wife knowing what the song was about' or something? If this is true, just how dumb did he think his wife was?
