"deep in dread" interpretations

i would be interested in hearing peoples interpretations of the dub reggae term "deep in dread"

as in "this track is really deep in dread"

there is a meaning that seems clear on the surface but i am interested in particular meanings and/or any anecdotal evidence about the origin of the phrase.
