Tell me more about Talk Talk's "Spirit Of Eden" Recording Sessions

Is there a good resource out there on the making of this record? Is there a 33 1/3rd in the works?

I heard there was a short article in the new Paste magazine on the record and I tracked that down. At one point in the article it said that the recording session was "well documented", but i've seen nothing written on it.

I know about the interviews from the time period on the Within Without fan page, but was looking for something more in-depth on the recording of the album itself.

Thanks in advance.

Here's a decent article about Spirit of Eden from 1988

I recall an interview in which Hollis described months and months cooped up in a darkened studio, with only an occasional candle for light...sensory deprivation and all...sounded appropriately monastic...glad they did it that way; glad I didn't have to endure it with them...

Maybe some stuff here:
Are there any books about Talk Talk?

Also, I thought I still had that MOJO article on my computer...if I find it I'll send it to you.

My favorite story is how after not letting the record company (EMI) hear the sessions for months, Hollis and Friese-Green presented the finished product to him -- after it was finished, the guy reported burst into tears, and the band never learned whether it was because he was so moved by the music or rather that he knew right away that the record would sell about four copies.

I touched on the sessions here - incence, improvisations, intensity - but only briefly. I can't remember where I was sourcing from; I think weeks of Googling turned up a couple of interviews, most prominantly with Phill Brown, which I used.

These "hell in the studio" stories, apocryphal or not, are always interesting to me.

Probably mentioned in one of those threads linked above, but Tape Op had a long interview with Phil Brown some years ago where he talked a lot about the sessions.

Yeah, I think Phill said he's writing a book full of details.
