The "Lucky Kitchen" Label

"Lucky Kitchen" is the label run by electronic artists Alejandro & Aeron, who made the fantastic 2003 album, "Boucha Blue Blazes." (n.1) From its web site, LK appears to have a dozen or more "sound artists," who produce albums of soft electronics, "post-jazz," field recordings, and so forth. I liked a bunch of the MP3s I listened to.

Has anyone else heard of the label? What do you think of its artists, which include A & A, Liz Payne, Mary Halvorson and Jessica Pavone, Toshiya Tsunoda, Do, Joshua Abrams, and Relay Signals? This is a Search and Destroy/Classic or Dud question, I guess. Thanks.

(n.1) BBB was so interesting to me because the traditional music on the album -- often a single violin or piano line -- appeared behind other, non-traditional sounds, like people walking on a village street in Spain, a family sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner, and so forth. These sound elements made the album warm and intimate. The pockets of silence and the real-world happenings floating through the songs gave the album a bittersweet, almost cinematic feel. And when Boucha -- Aeron Bergman's grandmother -- finally sings a more straightforward song, "I Don't Know," it's an even more sad and powerful moment, set against the backdrop of the other songs.

one month passes...
They've put out records by friends of mine, and seem like swell people personally. The records I have from them seem pretty thought-out and carefully done.

daniel: your description sounds like the LK stuff i've heard. especially the home tapes 10" by alejandra salinas. the children's record was weird, in a fairly cutesy way. uhh. been a while since i listened to any of their stuff. i've got notebook on cities and clothes (alejandra and underwood, not on lucky kitchen) and it was a little bit more abstract, less disjointedly 'musical.' but it's been a while.
