Have you checked out Viva-Radio?

Memory-intensive flash based online streaming radio.

I have a show on right now:

http://www.viva-radio.com/

otherwise you can check out rotating archives, mine are at:

http://www.viva-radio.com/pyjamarama

These mostly aren't proper radio "shows" or mixes, but simple playlists. In the future they hope to expand to mixes, historical radio shows, band sessions etc.

Have you listened to the archives? Any favorite shows? Any other questions? Or is this just shameless self-promotion?

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 21:38 (nineteen years ago)

Going on the rather generous assumption that this isn't gratuitous, however well deserved self promotion,(and I will fawningly add that I have in my time done all manner of posts on my mp3 blog based on the RVNG mix), I would reccomend the ones done by Richard Carnage from the very excellent, Bristol-based blog, Tape http://allsexistape.blogspot.com/

I wonder how many other ILX posters are Viva broadcasters? I know of at least one or two others. I'll post some of the playlists soon, the one playing now (STILL!!!) is a rather mopey one...Nico, Fred Neil, Scott Walker, Colin Blunstone etc.

jaime (jaime), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 03:05 (nineteen years ago)

Dan, totally digging the shows. i seem to recall a killer Italo-themed one that you did a while ago (it was the first time i ever heard the Pineapples 12"). is that one out of the archive rotation permanently?

Robert Acosta (Rob 77), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 22:15 (nineteen years ago)

they are playing a song that reminds me of the sprockets right now. nejet 'nok - "jerk in joy"

M@tt He1geson: Sassy and I Don't Care Who Knows It (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 22:21 (nineteen years ago)

I've been listening to the Carnage shows, after following a Tim Finney link to TAPE, and yeah, that slightly chilled show #7 upthread is a favourite; the macca+joakim, the stina+vangelis, the SCSI-9, the jr boys+smoke...just wish the kate bush+radio slave was on this one (he played it on another show).

I'll check out dan's too now. Hey, advertising works.

deekew (deekew), Thursday, 16 November 2006 02:02 (nineteen years ago)

is this the station run by american apparel or something?

La Monte (La Monte), Thursday, 16 November 2006 02:43 (nineteen years ago)

only 4 shows are up in the archive at any given time. It's generally the last 4 shows, but they keep rotating old ones in when I miss a week or whatever, and I'm generally for them randomly changing which 4 old shows should be available. The show you're talking about was called "Waiting for the Love Boat" and was a mix of italo-disco, some early house, some synth new wave and 80s favorites. I was definitely thinking MIckey Mixin Oliver style WBMX action.

The station is funded by American Apparel, but basically run by a small cabal of international hipsters with impressive resumes.

M@tt He1geson: Sassy and I Don't Care Who Knows It (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 16 November 2006 16:50 (nineteen years ago)

i've never heard another bobby gentry song except for ode to billy joe! but this one is cool too!

M@tt He1geson: Sassy and I Don't Care Who Knows It (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 16 November 2006 16:59 (nineteen years ago)

Bobby Gentry is the best. Ode to Billy Joe is classic and she has other songs in that down-home-country style, but also has a lot of stuff that more AM radio produced with strings and stuff. I love her. She's this totally beautiful woman who grew up in the woods eating possum and has the most beautiful voice ever and is a fantastic songwriter. My favorite of all time is her duet with Glen Campbell, Mornin' Glory. Glen sings the first few verses and when Bobby comes in I just totally melt.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 16 November 2006 17:36 (nineteen years ago)

I'm a huge fan of early Tanya Tucker too....Bobbie G seems to fit in nicely w/that sort of swampy down home countrypolitan thing too....also Joe South

M@tt He1geson: Sassy and I Don't Care Who Knows It (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 16 November 2006 17:37 (nineteen years ago)

I got turned onto Joe South from listening to the Beach Boys song on the Good Vibrations box-set where Brian sings about listening to Joe South singing Games People Play.

Bobbie, not Bobby, sorry.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 16 November 2006 17:40 (nineteen years ago)

i have two joe south - games people play and walking shoes. they are both great.

party people by him is a heartbreakingly sad party jam.

btw, what everly bros. album is the song on yr mix from? did they finally reissue that two yanks in britain? i always wanted to get that...

M@tt He1geson: Sassy and I Don't Care Who Knows It (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 16 November 2006 17:42 (nineteen years ago)

That's from Roots, which I finally got recently, ripped to my computer then lost the CD right away. Great album.

dan selzer, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 18:10 (sixteen years ago)

and I found that Everly Brothers CD. It was in my discman. Who uses those?

dan selzer, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 18:11 (sixteen years ago)

six months pass...

i was curious if there was a thread about this. i've had my show for a few years now... still going strong. i laugh when people with american apparel email addresses email me out of the blue (i think they play the shows in the stores). does that happen to you dan?

the who cares (okamax), Tuesday, 18 May 2010 05:51 (fifteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

Yeah, I've gotten a few emails from employees and a few from fellow DJs. Makes me feel guilty that I don't listen to enough of my co-djs shows. I don't update enough and I'm still just doing playlists. Would love to get more ambitious and do some actual blended mixes. Which show is yours?
