So, is there a way to get the CDs that won't let you rip them onto iTunes ripped onto iTunes?

New to the 'pod. New Neil Young thing won't get on there. Apologies if this sorta thing has been discussed, the search function aggravates me too much these days.

Way too much work / too complicated for me. Anything else? What if I burn a CD of it and then try to load that?

your latter thought has been known to work for me

Weird! Yeah I've tried a few times, and nothing. Did you get the "DVD" version or the regular one?

I'll try the CD burn approach.

Can't copy it either.

See, this is where the industry really bugs me. A minor annoyance, for sure, but now I'm just going to go on slsk and download a copy and then put that on the iPod. See, they're ENCOURAGING me to to steal.

How is it stealing if you own the CD?

I find that putting the CD in my Mac and ripping it there works for 99% of CDs that fail to rip in my PC.

The remastered Tago Mago ripped fine to my iTunes.

The only CD that ever didn't rip to my itunes was the Yin Yang Twins United States album and there was actually a form of copy protection on it too. I'm on a mac as well.

What's weird is that the tracks names with the proper times all showed up on itunes after I ripped it, but there was no music coming from them.

Exarctly. I have tried the cross platform thing with much success. They will normally load on my PC, I burn them onto a CD, and then they transfer seamlessly to my Mac (or just transfer them with a thumbdrive)--although I have only been forced to do this twice.

The last headache I had with PC ripping was the Liars' Drum's Not Dead, which spawned an abomination of an audio interface that had an option to rip to plays-for-sure machine-locked WMA: The app connected to der Intarweb, downloaded some kinda license, and then proceeded to make useless-to-me WMAs.

Way too much work was put into this annoying application, especially since the CD was effortlessly ripped by iTunes on my G5 after I got annoyed with the PC.

If you have any sort of free, very basic sound editing software like Goldwave you can rip just about any CD ever, no matter the level of protection into mp3 format.
