So a couple of weeks after buying tickets for weekend one, curated by the Dirty Three, they go and announce weekend two, curated by the ATP folk and votes cast by ticket buyers. No details about the voting up yet but it looks like it be a more exciting proposition.

Maybe I can switch tickets like I did last year.

Oh, voting details are there:

Here's how it works. When you buy your tickets, you will be given details of a website. The person who actually buys the tickets will log into a page where they will be able to email out voting forms to each person in their apartment.

Each person then needs to use that form to submit their top ten bands.

Each week, the received votes will be tallied and listed on www.atpfestival.com in order of popularity. ATP will then start asking bands from the top of the list, down. Please note that this means the earlier you vote the more your vote will mean.

It sounds like a great idea, were it not being "organised" by one of the most incompetent fuckwits I've ever come across. (About 60% of tickets for Sonic Youth/Stooges ATP still not shipped - all those through the "official" ticket agent linked off the ATP site - because the useless cunt can't be arsed getting all the paperwork ACROSS LONDON.)

Let's face it, we all know he'll end up picking all the bands, which is why I've decided to plump for the Dirty Three weekend anyway (although I'm waiting till after SY to see what the chalet quality is like before I book).

I'm much more likely to go to this:

Wait, but doesn't that mean you're basically buying tickets to a show where you have no idea whether you actually want to see anyone on the bill? Also, the process strikes me as potentially vulnerable to industry manipulation

hahahahah "potentially vulnerable to industry manipulation" could describe the entire music industry!

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 23:14 (nineteen years ago)

next thing you'll claim the curating artists pick every act at atp!

That Bloc Weekend looks pretty rad. This doesn't

Feargal Hixxy (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 23:50 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, I suppose you're right (xpost).

Anyway, I still would hesitiate to buy tickets to a mystery show that just happened to be called ATP.

A-ron Hubbard (Hurting), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 23:55 (nineteen years ago)

That's pretty much our entire strategy - who cares who's playing, it's ATP!

That said though, Bloc Weekend does look good and I do wish ATP had a bit more dance/electronic stuff - since the Autechre weekend there's been virtually none.

Bloc looks lame to me, as do both ATPs! I think the Nightmare before Xmas lineup is quite good, but I look back to the Autechre one and weep.

I want an ATP curated by Diplo and I want it now.
