I'M GIVING THESE CDs AWAY

Hi everybody!

I'm back home for a bit in Miami and going through all my old stuff. I have lots of CDs that I bought in middle and high school that I no longer want. I don't think I can sell these anywhere so I'm giving them away.

The CDs themselves are free, but there is a flat shipping + handling rate of 4 US dollars. There is also a five CD minimum. If you ask for all of them or something crazyhelpful like that, I will have to ask for twice that rate. I can't vouch for the condition of any of these but they are free (and I'm an only child, so you know I'm very protective of my possessions).

The following are CDs I burned using lossless audio files from bittorrent. I know they're just burned but they are in very very carefully handmade paper sleeves with the show info stamped on the front. Like, really nice. I came up with the design for one of my design courses a few years ago and I remember making the dimensions precise to, like, 3/10 mm. So please take these, too.

minutemen - 1985-11-15, huntington beach, california
velvet underground - 1972-01-29, le bataclan, paris (soundboard recording, recently released commercially iirc)

Thanks a lot to whoever takes these off my hands (and mind)!

lfam, i appreciate your act of kindness, but why couldn't you sell them anywhere? your city doesn't have a used store that takes any crap? i'm sure you could get at least a buck each.

critique de la vie quotidienne (modestmickey), Thursday, 4 January 2007 03:05 (eighteen years ago)

who's running, canuck?

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 4 January 2007 03:19 (eighteen years ago)

things you're giving away = things I kept when I sold/gave away all my bad indie-rock (fuck u Stephen Merritt)

milo z (mlp), Thursday, 4 January 2007 04:06 (eighteen years ago)

1. there is no used cd store in miami that would take these
2. if you want them, use the webmail link to email me

friday on the porch (lfam), Thursday, 4 January 2007 04:09 (eighteen years ago)

xp - ok, except for the Sublime. even I can't listen to that.

milo z (mlp), Thursday, 4 January 2007 04:10 (eighteen years ago)

the most i could hope for in miami is someone willing to just take them for free... this is easier than making that happen

friday on the porch (lfam), Thursday, 4 January 2007 04:10 (eighteen years ago)

xpost otm

friday on the porch (lfam), Thursday, 4 January 2007 04:11 (eighteen years ago)

what a weird gift: "hey little nephew, how bout you grow up to be a heroin-addicted beach bum? have some acoustic versions, too!"

friday on the porch (lfam), Thursday, 4 January 2007 04:12 (eighteen years ago)

Hmm, there are a few things in there I'd probably keep for the hell of it (the live shows, Frank's Wild Years - which, admittedly, I sold a while ago), but nothing I like enough to pay shipping on.

A-ron Hubbard (Hurting), Thursday, 4 January 2007 04:13 (eighteen years ago)

yeah... this is really hoping that someone will take them all

friday on the porch (lfam), Thursday, 4 January 2007 04:13 (eighteen years ago)

I fired off an email for a handful, but if you're really looking to unload (nobody wants the 80 smooth jazz records I have either!) and I can afford shipping I'd take the lot.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver (Hoosteen), Thursday, 4 January 2007 04:23 (eighteen years ago)

you'll make someone's day with that 7 Seconds record, I know it

jergins (jergins), Thursday, 4 January 2007 04:23 (eighteen years ago)

Merlin - do you have any CTI-type "smooth jazz" or only Dave Koz-ish stuff?

A-ron Hubbard (Hurting), Thursday, 4 January 2007 04:33 (eighteen years ago)

you'll regret ditching that mogwai record; it's their 2nd-best after Rock Action. after my initial re-appraisal of the band (i.e. backlash) I've come to the conclusion that it does as a matter of fact rule, just like the other 3 albums they released before that Mr. Beast fiasco.

You've Got Scourage On Your Breath (Haberdager), Thursday, 4 January 2007 04:38 (eighteen years ago)

Leon can I have the Mogwai? PLZZ??

friday on the porch (lfam), Thursday, 4 January 2007 05:17 (eighteen years ago)

A-Ron,

Lots of Chuck Mangione, Bob James, Spyro Gyra, Grover Washington Jr. etc

Hoosteen (Hoosteen), Thursday, 4 January 2007 05:48 (eighteen years ago)

Hmm, Chuck Mangione ain't bad and neither is the early Bob James stuff.

A-ron Hubbard (Hurting), Thursday, 4 January 2007 05:50 (eighteen years ago)

i only have one of these records (guess which one!)

electric sound of jim [and why not] (electricsound), Thursday, 4 January 2007 05:50 (eighteen years ago)

I agree Chuckie isn't all bad (I'm keeping two or three, but giving away 7), and I'm hanging on to that Bob James w/Ron Carter on it, but there are also oodles of New Age/Smooth jazz crossover samplers and things to that effect. I can send you a list if you're interested.

Hoosteen (Hoosteen), Thursday, 4 January 2007 05:52 (eighteen years ago)

Sure why not

A-ron Hubbard (Hurting), Thursday, 4 January 2007 05:53 (eighteen years ago)

This is a great idea and I"m probably going to make the same offer myself soon.
Cds are DEAD, mannnnn; it's all about DATA

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Thursday, 4 January 2007 06:18 (eighteen years ago)

Until I own a satisfactory device for playing mp3s in my kitchen, I will continue to use the CD boombox. Same goes for mp3 connection to my stereo, bc the headphone jack thing is not cutting it.

I have no Tom Waits.. can I?

Oh, Alice might go far Green Day/Rancid. That VU Bataclan one..

My email is true.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 4 January 2007 09:42 (eighteen years ago)

I'm almost tempted to ask about US-to-UK shipping, on the grounds that I could make my girlfriend's year with this (I'd prolly have the Bad Religion CDs)... but, crucially, not quite

Feargal Hixxy (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 4 January 2007 09:43 (eighteen years ago)

lfam is the email you provide here legit? I got the Daemon failure ish, is there somewhere else I should try?

Hoosteen (Hoosteen), Thursday, 4 January 2007 10:01 (eighteen years ago)

Also slightly tempted to ask about US-to-UK, cos I wouldn't mind taking that TSOL album, but I can't see anything else I want unfortunately. Unless any of those NOFX albums are any good, probably not, I haven't listened to them in years.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 4 January 2007 10:37 (eighteen years ago)

friday on the porch (lfam), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:43 (eighteen years ago)

hmm, i didn't consider international shipping... does media mail work international? i'm willing to send these at a loss but i don't know how much of a loss. i'll get back about shipping to england.

friday on the porch (lfam), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:44 (eighteen years ago)

Wait, I can have all of those for $8?

Lee is Free (Lee is Free), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:50 (eighteen years ago)

theoretically, yes, but other people have already called certain things, i think

friday on the porch (lfam), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:54 (eighteen years ago)
