The kana which does not return to original [boadamusu] quickly. VORE comes and the [ge] is expectation of being attached and empty which returns to the origin it is you probably will do however. Mountain mound love enjoys, it comes out of that DJ booth quickly and freely you make do the [wa] w9 which is limited what kind of it is with stage!!

am0n (am0n), Thursday, 4 January 2007 19:58 (eighteen years ago)

whoah, what's with the choir?

Dr. Alicia D. Titsovich (sexyDancer), Thursday, 4 January 2007 19:59 (eighteen years ago)

u guys know about teh reissues right?

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 4 January 2007 20:24 (eighteen years ago)

reissues of what, the older super roots? is that actually going to happen?

Stingy (stingy), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:09 (eighteen years ago)

yes, all reissued this month and feb

I do recall reading about the choir show, and am really anxious to hear this

Dominique (dleone), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:11 (eighteen years ago)

yep, all on vice.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:11 (eighteen years ago)

and 9 too, or is 9 only Japan?

Dr. Alicia D. Titsovich (sexyDancer), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:30 (eighteen years ago)

looks like 9 is IMPORT

Dr. Alicia D. Titsovich (sexyDancer), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:32 (eighteen years ago)

whoah, what's with the choir?

They had 20-odd vocalists! That's why there's a written score I figure.

I'm more excited for 77 DRUM

roc u like a § (ex machina), Thursday, 4 January 2007 22:11 (eighteen years ago)

Sounds good. However, I will wait for Super Roots 10, which is apparently the box set of all of them.

Harpal (harpal), Thursday, 4 January 2007 23:40 (eighteen years ago)

apparently SR 9 is now March >:(

Dominique (dleone), Friday, 12 January 2007 18:49 (eighteen years ago)

two weeks pass...
so, having only heard #7 of the super roots series (which I plan to buy next month), are 1, 3, and/or 5 worth picking up now that they're out in stores? sounds like #5 is a good one.

Stingy (stingy), Friday, 26 January 2007 20:16 (eighteen years ago)

I would say 3, 5, 7, and 8 are the cosimc groove ones
1, 2, 6 are the kitchen sink noise ones

sexyDancer (sexyDancer), Friday, 26 January 2007 20:21 (eighteen years ago)

this AMG review of #5 makes it sound kinda skullflower-esque

Stingy (stingy), Friday, 26 January 2007 20:26 (eighteen years ago)

5 is an hour of brutal noise which is divided into segments with the occasional scream of "GO!!!!!". Highly recommended.

1 is a bit of a curio. Some short, sharp punky thrashing and some fucking about - sound of someone pissing, smacking about some pots and pans or whatever, etc.

3 is a hardcore punk song that last for half an hour and occasionally changes chord, quite cool but inessential.

jimn (jimnaseum), Friday, 26 January 2007 20:29 (eighteen years ago)

3 has actually become my favorite of late.

pdf (Phil Freeman), Friday, 26 January 2007 20:33 (eighteen years ago)

My favorites are 6, 7 and 8 (in that order).

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Friday, 26 January 2007 20:48 (eighteen years ago)

I wonder why Vice didn't just re-release them all at once. Oh well. Regarding the "brutal noise" of #5, am I correct in comparing it to some Matthew Bower band? I own a couple Hototogisu records but don't listen to them that much. Is this more or less brutal?

Stingy (stingy), Friday, 26 January 2007 21:14 (eighteen years ago)

is it more or less 97% crash cymbal???

sexyDancer (sexyDancer), Friday, 26 January 2007 21:17 (eighteen years ago)

There's a whole lot of crash, yes. It's nice warm noise really, never veers too far into painful high-pitch wail territory (not that there's anything wrong with stuff like that per se).

jimn (jimnaseum), Friday, 26 January 2007 21:19 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, I'm not anti- high pitch wail, but it's the kind of thing I'm probably more likely to play on the radio rather than spend money on. I see they have some audio samples at Boomkat, I'm going to listen now.

Stingy (stingy), Friday, 26 January 2007 21:21 (eighteen years ago)

Super Roots 5 is very similar to the essential "Super Sky" (off of the Super Sky/Super 77 12"). Super Sky is an extended/better version of Super Now off the ATP compilation. There's some link between Super Sky/Super Now "Super Go!! → Shine in Shine on!" (Super Go single [Shasta has super poofy edition!]) / Super Going (Super æ version), but it is escaping me.

"2001 Boredoms" single is also some permutation of these I think.

Shasta, what's the third track on vinyl Super Go!? Other than Super Punk and the aforementioned track.

UART variations (ex machina), Friday, 26 January 2007 21:59 (eighteen years ago)

1, 2, 6 are the kitchen sink noise ones

SR 6 is actually the weird electronic one. And it's very good.

Dave Segal (Da ve Segal), Saturday, 27 January 2007 21:32 (eighteen years ago)

agreed. my faves (in order) are 7, 6, 8, and 1.

sleeve (sleeve), Sunday, 28 January 2007 02:46 (eighteen years ago)

Does anyone know if this "Super Roots 10" boxset (or for that matter Super Roots 9) has been picked up by Vice for US distribution? It'd be nice having Super Roots 2, if that's going to be in the box...

Telephonething (Telephonething), Sunday, 28 January 2007 03:03 (eighteen years ago)

I think there must have been a sandbox thread on this because I asked that question (re: SR2) and was told that it was not being reissued separately, not sure about the box.

sleeve (sleeve), Sunday, 28 January 2007 03:52 (eighteen years ago)

it's not being reissued seperately, and probably isn't going to be in the box.

but, that's just me guessing.

Brakhage (brakhage), Monday, 29 January 2007 23:07 (eighteen years ago)

me: Will Vice be releasing the upcoming Super Roots 9 in the US, or the Super Roots 10 box set of the series?

Vice: Eventually. But first the band has to record 9 and they have no immediate
plans to do so. We all hope it will happen soon.

Thanks for writing

Telephonething (Telephonething), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 22:49 (eighteen years ago)

They need to reform first.

The last song they recorded was the Phish cover.

The track on the VCN box set is Osaka City University 1998. "hourglass" aka boretronix logo aka the first half of that set is a really good tune! I have a few versions

Not that it helps too much, but I did a translation of the Amazon page with Google and here's what the 3 reviews there so far say:

i kinda feel a bit disappointed by this; yeah, the choir is great, but it does sound very similar to all the times i've seen them (in the last couple of years), really.

just occured to me: is Super Roots 9 basically a cover of Dinosaur L's "Go Bang/Let's Go Swimming?"

sexyDancer, Monday, 2 April 2007 22:03 (eighteen years ago)

Sounds very similar to the set I saw them play last year at the Intonation fest minus the choir. I could do with either half the amount of choir or none at all. It is a bit too much, isn't it?

Harpal, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 06:42 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, otherwise a great release.

Harpal, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 06:42 (eighteen years ago)

I'm enjoying this a lot, though it is just a single idea that gets a little old over 40 minutes. But that's sort of their M.O. at this point. Still love it.

It's kind of moving from Neu! and Can to Popol Vuh.

Mark Rich@rdson, Monday, 9 April 2007 12:35 (eighteen years ago)

IS it me or have they been playing something that sounds very much like the first track on super æ as the lead in for live shows. (not on this iirc)

Steve Shasta, Thursday, 12 April 2007 22:11 (eighteen years ago)

five months pass...

This is probably being nit-picky, but I've got a question about the Vice Super Roots reissues - did they remaster them at all? Because I saw a regular Reprise edition of Super Roots 6 used, and was wondering if I should go ahead and get it, or if the Vice one is "better." Furthermore, I also saw the WEA Japan edition of Super Roots 8 used, in an over sized paper sleeve, but didn't get that yet either. It actually costs more than the Vice #8 new, since it's an import. Like I said, I'm probably nit-picking, but what do people think?

stingy, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 14:57 (seventeen years ago)

the number of people who've heard both versions of the super roots with enough of an ear to tell the difference between "masterings" are probably nil. It's a packaging choice.

sexyDancer, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 15:04 (seventeen years ago)

were they remastered? i thought they were reissued because they were LQQK OOP.

Steve Shasta, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 16:54 (seventeen years ago)

over sized paper sleeve
^ ok waht never seen this version

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 17:04 (seventeen years ago)

i think he's referring to the digipak.

Steve Shasta, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 17:15 (seventeen years ago)

The paper sleeved #8 is a Japanese edition. It's the same style as re-bore volume 0, if you've ever seen that. I'm sure people have heard the Reprise edition of #6 since that was one of the two that were actually put out in the US originally. I assume it sounds fine, but part of me wants to just get the Vice edition for continuity with the other Vice one I have. I'm being stupid, I know.

stingy, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 17:16 (seventeen years ago)

"paper" = "cardboard".
