Still in the playlist: mixes by bimble and grady and jerkmusic and of course Skotrok.

Just added: opera arias, various jazz, old weird country from skot's collection, 700 songs from my friend Bob's collection that appear to be mostly lascivious in nature.

Soon to be added: w1lly mas0n's dad's collection of old Lomax recordings, original stuff and recordings from the 40s made by his reporter dad.

now playing: pixeltan - run around

Maria :D (Maria D.), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:26 (eighteen years ago)

Didja ever get the mix I sent? Or was it just too abhorrent to broadcast?

Edward III (edward iii), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:37 (eighteen years ago)

I don't think I got it. Did you send it to my e-mail address or to wvvymusic@gmail.com?

Maria :D (Maria D.), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:53 (eighteen years ago)

when are you coming home???

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:54 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, the YSI link was expired, Edward.

Scott - coming home now. Why, everything okay?

Maria :D (Maria D.), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:56 (eighteen years ago)

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:57 (eighteen years ago)

smokes, yes. I figured you wouldn't mind some baby/daddy time. He gets so wound up when I'm around.

Maria :D (Maria D.), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:01 (eighteen years ago)

Fifteen years from now:

"Mom, Dad, did you really use a web-board to ask about getting smokes?"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:07 (eighteen years ago)

now playing a long lecture about colonialism by steve shalom, prof. of foreign policy, mixed with coltrane.

Right on.

Maria :D (Maria D.), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:25 (eighteen years ago)

Of course the mp3 playlist lops off the artist, thanx toast dudes. I can type them into a copy of the playlist, but do you need the album names too?

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:02 (eighteen years ago)

Hey, Beth, no need for album names. Got the playlist e-mail. thanks! I'll drop by on the way back down-island from Bette's on Sunday to pick it up. D also has some monkey records, he said (no we never found the monkey, maybe now was time for Roo to be weaned of it).

Maria :D (Maria D.), Friday, 5 January 2007 14:27 (eighteen years ago)

Where the hell did that monkey go? One of the great mysteries.

maria, where are you? what are you eating for lunch?

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 5 January 2007 17:40 (eighteen years ago)

Maria, did you ever figure out what song it was I heard at around 8 AM eastern time on 12/30 that I described in the email?

Bimbler (Bimble...), Friday, 5 January 2007 21:47 (eighteen years ago)

No, the history isn't long enough for me to be able to figure it out. Sorry!

Maria :D (Maria D.), Friday, 5 January 2007 22:31 (eighteen years ago)

Well, that might be something to work on for the future then? A longer history? Much as KEXP grates on my nerves, their website playlist feature is pretty cool, in fact I became upset at a BBC show once that had playlist problems because KEXP has spoiled me like that. But anyway, it's not a big deal, at least next time I'll know where to look to find out what song is playing at any given time.

Bimbler (Bimble...), Saturday, 6 January 2007 04:03 (eighteen years ago)

Bump it up so we can click the link!

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 16:08 (eighteen years ago)

I'm sitting here with Bobby Lee and we're enjoying your songs. Wanna request something?

Maria :D (Maria D.), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 16:34 (eighteen years ago)

Yes! I request you tell Scott how to create filenames properly so his links on the Vinyl-to-mp3 thread work. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 16:34 (eighteen years ago)

Salutations to you both! I'm just grooving on the mix. Are you controlling it, or is the computer? It's cool. And it's an awesome powerful master-of-the-universe feeling to hear my own contributions to the playlist.
We should really be outside. A beautiful day!

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 16:55 (eighteen years ago)

now back home - stepped outside for a minute - blinky blinky

We can control the computer, but we choose to abdicate control for the moment. But I swear it has a soul of its own.

Actually, I can choose certain "playlist logic" and then leave it up to the computer to apply it -- i.e. I can tell the computer to randomly pick one of your songs every five or so songs, which is what it's doing now, I think. One of the "songs" it has now chosen is one of Scott's long-ass mixes, so for the next hour or so it will be playing Scott's vinyl.

Maria :D (Maria D.), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 17:15 (eighteen years ago)

I thought that was an awfully long song, with a lot of different parts.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 17:17 (eighteen years ago)

It's not picking enough of your songs, Beth. I must've neglected to save my settings or something. I will make it play more of your music next time I'm there. That computer must obey me.

Maria :D (Maria D.), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 18:50 (eighteen years ago)

The computer heard me... it just went down.

Maria :D (Maria D.), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 18:52 (eighteen years ago)

Don't worry, I had to turn off all music in order to proofread. Which I am working HARD at, really.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 19:03 (eighteen years ago)

I am making this computer my bitch.

Maria :D (Maria D.), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 19:27 (eighteen years ago)

I actually proofed some irate letters to the editor.
Are you home? I have to go out and feed some cats—maybe I'll bring these cds by your house.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 20:11 (eighteen years ago)

I'm at p3ac3gat3. I'll be home in a minute. If I'm not there, you can put them in the mailbox. I'll be going to get the kids and deliver a much-missed monkey in about an hour.

Maria :D (Maria D.), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 20:13 (eighteen years ago)

Okey doke. I'm making a big bowl of coffee for the road.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 20:16 (eighteen years ago)

Hey Maria—Old time banjo player Wade Ward is misrepresented at "Wayne" Ward on the history.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 20:17 (eighteen years ago)

That's so weird. That song was burned straight from a comp CD (I forget which one) -- I didn't type the name in. Thanks! You're a true fact-checker/copy-editor. I'll change it now.

Maria :D (Maria D.), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 21:10 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, a copy-editor who writes "misrepresented at."

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 21:13 (eighteen years ago)

It's from the Stuff That Dreams Are Made Of boxed set of rarities from the 20s and 30s. I can change the file name, but the player is still calling him Wayne. It's embedded somehow in the mp3 info. I'm going to play it now to see how it comes up.

Maria :D (Maria D.), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 21:17 (eighteen years ago)

Aargh. Maybe I'll just delete the song, although I enjoy it.What do you think? Do you think Wade would rather not be misrepresented as Wayne or would rather have his song heard. Is he rolling over in his grave with pleasure or dismay?

Maria :D (Maria D.), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 21:19 (eighteen years ago)

Donald has all the Wade Ward stuff, no doubt. You could chuck what you've got and use his stuff. I think the radio station should get the name right. You are an educator, of sorts. I used to try to impress this upon my nursery coworkers when they'd butcher botanical Latin pronunciation. It was an uphill battle.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 21:25 (eighteen years ago)

Wow! "Pirate Jenny" to "White Trash Jenny!" Don't tell me the computer did THAT.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 21:39 (eighteen years ago)

I've never heard him represented "Wayne." Probably just a mistake. He misrepresents it strongly (but leave it)

Donald (donald), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 21:44 (eighteen years ago)

Nope, I did that for your amusement before leaving.

Maria :D (Maria D.), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 22:33 (eighteen years ago)

To make up for typing the titles without caps and umlauts.

Maria :D (Maria D.), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 22:34 (eighteen years ago)

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Thursday, 11 January 2007 17:00 (eighteen years ago)

Maria I sent you an e-mail.

R_S (RSLaRue), Thursday, 11 January 2007 19:43 (eighteen years ago)

Thanks, Rockist! I haven't heard it yet. I'll put it into the playlist to play tomorrow.

Maria :D (Maria D.), Thursday, 11 January 2007 22:41 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't have a chance to download Democracy Now today, so yesterday's will play at 6 p.m. If anyone listening doesn't want to hear yesterday's DN! just go to their website yourself and listen to today's.

Maria :D (Maria D.), Thursday, 11 January 2007 22:42 (eighteen years ago)

I sent a followup too.

I've dropped out of watching the news over the past couple months, but I just caught part of CNN while I was in a restaurant waiting for some Chinese takeout, which made me think maybe I need to watch Democracy Now to sort of flush out my system. I'm always astonished at how often stories are framed along the lines of, "Well, the president is going to have a hard time selling his new policy."

R_S (RSLaRue), Thursday, 11 January 2007 23:59 (eighteen years ago)

Maria, we got to 5 corners too late! Only Bob was still there, packing up his "Give Impeach a Chance" sign. So we huddled in my warm car and caughtup for about 45 minutes. Very pleasant.
I am a failure as a protester.
Ooh, Gato is on! IEuropa! used to get SO stoned and listen to this!

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Friday, 12 January 2007 00:06 (eighteen years ago)

SHIT-LIST! AGAIN!!!!!

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Saturday, 13 January 2007 17:16 (eighteen years ago)

?

R_S (RSLaRue), Saturday, 13 January 2007 17:18 (eighteen years ago)

Or is it "shitless?"

It's a shrieking enraged song by a local youth that Maria plays on the radio. If you'd clicked the link up top you would have heard it, but now we've moved on to something more serene, or maybe even medicated.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Saturday, 13 January 2007 17:20 (eighteen years ago)

Ha! The serene song is my cousin's kid. We take care of our own on wvvy.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Saturday, 13 January 2007 17:21 (eighteen years ago)

i started a thread on Anti ages ago, but i can't find it.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 13 January 2007 17:53 (eighteen years ago)

I'm having trouble finding things, too, with the newfangled Google thing.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Saturday, 13 January 2007 17:55 (eighteen years ago)

Maybe if there's a way of making search case-sensitive. Did you refer to him in the proper way, as ANTI?

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Saturday, 13 January 2007 17:58 (eighteen years ago)

My bad—ANTi.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Saturday, 13 January 2007 18:02 (eighteen years ago)

I like that middle one—ANTi has one friends—ANTi.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Saturday, 13 January 2007 18:03 (eighteen years ago)

A confidential informant informed me that ANTi deleted all the other friends so he could be his only friend.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Monday, 15 January 2007 16:57 (eighteen years ago)

So would he reject my friend request?

Maria :D (Maria D.), Monday, 15 January 2007 17:29 (eighteen years ago)

This morning, the computer played 7 songs about trains in a row. I thought somebody must be there directing it -- not so. It's set up to play the least recently played tracks - it must have some mystery file name logic behind its curtain.

Maria :D (Maria D.), Monday, 15 January 2007 17:30 (eighteen years ago)

speak of the devil!

Maria :D (Maria D.), Monday, 15 January 2007 17:34 (eighteen years ago)

I just downloaded several of the mixes from the DJ download thread and will put them in the mix in the next couple of days. Also just added: Rockist Hothouse salsa songs.

The computer is set up to play music mostly at random, picking from about 2,000 songs. It turns out lately that the computer seems to have some kind of telepathic ability or its listeners have some kind of telekinetic power.

This morning, it picked 7 songs about trains in a row (at random, just set to play the least recently track and least recently played artist. The train songs had the word train in both artist and song titles and some of the file names started with numerals and the others didn't, so it didn't just grab files "close to each other" in the alphabetic or numeric list. I think there's a soul in the machine.

Maria :D (Maria D.), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 02:12 (eighteen years ago)

See if you can listen and think about something really hard and get the stream to play something about what you're thinking. Sort of like a....

Maria :D (Maria D.), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 02:13 (eighteen years ago)

MENTAL REQUEST LINE

(you think it, we play it)

Maria :D (Maria D.), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 02:14 (eighteen years ago)

There are 4 other people who have used the computer. I thought maybe one of them queued up train songs, so I sent an e-mail to them asking. One of them responded that he'd been dreaming at the time I e-mailed him (about 7:20 AM) that he was riding a train to Memphis. One of the first songs that wasn't a train song was Going Down to Memphis, or something like that. I didn't mention Memphis in my e-mail.

Maria :D (Maria D.), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 02:16 (eighteen years ago)

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 02:16 (eighteen years ago)

all Anti - all the time. i like the idea of that. it's a good slogan too.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 02:22 (eighteen years ago)

ANTi (I need to fix my capitalization)

Maria :D (Maria D.), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 02:44 (eighteen years ago)

You guys need two computers in the house so you can really get down with the back and forth.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 02:47 (eighteen years ago)

We really do know how to get down with the back and forth (wink wink).

Maria :D (Maria D.), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 03:08 (eighteen years ago)

A local comedian produced a couple of really funny snippets that are now in the stream - the ferry guys.

Tonight Rockist Scientist's latest mix played.

Also just added: Ballyhoo, a local band with a washboard player (one of our volunteers) who performed at the brew pub Saturday night.

Tonight Rockist Scientist's latest mix played.

I am a regular! (I always miss my songs when I tune in though.)

R_S (RSLaRue), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 01:59 (eighteen years ago)

When do you usually tune in?

Maria :D (Maria D.), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 02:17 (eighteen years ago)

Cuz I could make sure you hear your stuff when you tune in.

Maria :D (Maria D.), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 02:17 (eighteen years ago)

No regular time. Anyway, it's okay. I could always listen on my own. I just want the excitement of knowing that my mix is being heard by 2 of 20 unique listeners.

R_S (RSLaRue), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 02:26 (eighteen years ago)

We got up to 8 unique listeners the other day!

Maria :D (Maria D.), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 17:47 (eighteen years ago)

I'm playing a half-hour funny piece by WCDC Radio called WHY DON'T YOU TRY DRUGS that features bits rearranged from old anti-drug recordings.

Maria :D (Maria D.), Saturday, 3 February 2007 03:11 (eighteen years ago)

The guy who made it used to hang out at Bob D's record store in Philly.

Maria :D (Maria D.), Saturday, 3 February 2007 03:12 (eighteen years ago)

Maria :D, Thursday, 21 June 2007 15:00 (eighteen years ago)

Will you observe the day of silence next week?

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 21 June 2007 15:03 (eighteen years ago)

ok

Maria :D, Thursday, 21 June 2007 15:07 (eighteen years ago)

I mean, you don't have to. Anyway, what do you think of the comp?

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 21 June 2007 15:08 (eighteen years ago)

I enjoy it!
I was having some trouble with the webstreaming computer, so the stream went down for a bit.

I don't think actions like "buy nothing day" or "watch no TV day" or "stop streaming day" have any effect, really.

Maria :D, Thursday, 21 June 2007 17:40 (eighteen years ago)

four months pass...

our construction permit expires in 6 weeks to start our FM station. I was about ready to throw in the towel, cuz we've fallen far short of the fundraising goal and just found out we didn't get a grant we were hopeful about. It looks like the prometheus project folks are going to come save the day and get us set up. And today we got an offer of studio space that is better than what we were going to use, so the project is rising from the ashes. I just moved the webstreaming computer to our house, cuz we just moved into a new one with more space. Now I'll be able to monitor it closely and might even get skot to do a show now and then from here. Now it's basically running like an Ipod, with a random assemblage of songs. Anyway, again I am able to stream your podcasts if you'd like.

Maria :D, Thursday, 25 October 2007 02:04 (seventeen years ago)
