1999 called and it wants this thread back.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 5 January 2007 00:19 (nineteen years ago)

OK, only new millenium threads from now on, got it.

Zachary Scott (Zach S), Friday, 5 January 2007 00:50 (nineteen years ago)

I made this years ago for a friend, but I was just listening to it on my iPod the other day. I don't listen to the remaining songs much. I should, there's some good stuff in those 38 other tracks, but I got used to hearing this version. It clocks in at 79:43

didn't they MAKE a 69LS 1-discer?

If you fuck with Jimmy Mod, you call down the thunder (The Famous Jimmy Mod), Friday, 5 January 2007 01:30 (nineteen years ago)

Who were "they", then?

tiit (tiit), Friday, 5 January 2007 01:34 (nineteen years ago)

Merge also sells the 3CD set separately, I think, as Vol. 1, 2, and 3.

Zachary Scott (Zach S), Friday, 5 January 2007 01:38 (nineteen years ago)

Merge. and I don't mean the individual ones...

If they did collect the best songs on one CD, it's not listed on allmusic or discogs.com

Zachary Scott (Zach S), Friday, 5 January 2007 01:54 (nineteen years ago)

1999 called and it wants this thread back.

No worries, Alex, in two more years they can have the six-month-long tenth anniversary "What did 69LS mean for your life?" series on VH1, copresented by Pitchfork.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 5 January 2007 02:19 (nineteen years ago)

I wait with bated breath.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 5 January 2007 02:24 (nineteen years ago)

I made a supergreat C60 out of this record once, but I can go fuck myself cos I left "Bitter Tears" off it.

Honestly = No One Will Ever Love You? The rest are close enough. It seems weird that I never tried to do this before. These are my favorites, I guess:

Meaningless

I didn't check to see if that fits on one disc or not.

Marmot (marmotwolof), Friday, 5 January 2007 10:14 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I think "Honestly" is a better title for it, the other title is not what the song's saying...

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 5 January 2007 10:15 (nineteen years ago)

I think it shows how good the record is that all these lists look great.

But you can't leave off The Book of Love. My sister read that at our wedding.

Jamie T Smith (Jamie T Smith), Friday, 5 January 2007 12:35 (nineteen years ago)

I think I need Fido, Your Leash is Too Long, as well.

Jamie T Smith (Jamie T Smith), Friday, 5 January 2007 12:36 (nineteen years ago)

One of the fist songs I ever wrote was called "Rover, come back to me this minute" which was scarily similar (and forgotten until I heard this song)

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 5 January 2007 13:38 (nineteen years ago)

1 Love Song:

"All My Little Words"

Jim M (jmcgaw), Friday, 5 January 2007 13:42 (nineteen years ago)

I think it shows how good the record is that all these lists look great.

I agree. I have to say, though, "When my Boy Walks Down the Street" is one of my favorite songs of the 90s, probably, so I can't fully support any tracklist that doesn't include it somewhere, preferrably in a showcase position.

Zachary Scott (Zach S), Friday, 5 January 2007 23:48 (nineteen years ago)

I'll bite. As it turns out, there are about 23 songs that I'm in love with; even though 'filler' comes to mind, the stuff left off isn't bad.

What's kind of scary is that my 23 songs clock in at about an hour, which means it could've easily been a proper album. If it had been released like this, it probably would have been my favorite album of the '90s (after checking, I'd never realized it was Fall of 1999).

1. Absolutely Cuckoo
2. I Don't Believe in the Sun
3. A Chicken with Its Head Cut Off
4. Reno Dakota
5. I Don't Want to Get Over You
6. Come Back to San Francisco
7. The Luckiest Guy on the Lower East Side
8. The Book of Love
9. Fido, Your Leash Is Too Long
10. When My Boy Walks Down the Street
11. Very Funny
12. Grand Canyon
13. No One Will Ever Love You
14. (Crazy for You But) Not That Crazy
15. Washington D.C.
16. Long-Forgotten Fairytale
17. Papa Was a Rodeo
18. Underwear
19. Busby Berkley Dreams
20. I'm Sorry I Love You
21. The Death of Ferdinand De Saussure
22. Yeah! Oh, Yeah!
23. Meaningless

When I first heard 69 Love Songs I was a bit sad it didn't contain anything with the drive of "All the Umbrellas in London." I got over it. Still listen to 69 Love Songs on a regular basis to this day.

Jamesy (SuzyCreemcheese), Saturday, 6 January 2007 03:02 (nineteen years ago)

I like that list.

Had he cut it down to one CD, it would have been one of my very favorites of the decades as well. It still is in its 3 volume form, but it would be even better as one.

Zachary Scott (Zach S), Saturday, 6 January 2007 03:18 (nineteen years ago)

PERSONALLY I think I could tear up all 23 of those songs in a karaoke challenge.

:: trolls for .kar YSI masterpiece ::

I'm eager to see which path the 33 1/3 series book took. There's a ton of stuff I'd love to know about this album.

Speaking of which, can someone fill me in on Claudia Gonson? I know nothing about her and I'd like to know more.

Jamesy (SuzyCreemcheese), Saturday, 6 January 2007 05:17 (nineteen years ago)

yeah oh yeah
and nothing else

kyle (akmonday), Saturday, 6 January 2007 07:30 (nineteen years ago)

One Hour This would be one I would make for someone who doesn't want all the discs and not something I would listen to very often. I need to put this thing to sleep for five years and come back to it.
