called "Myth Takes" is - um - kinda fantastic? I'm just sayin'. They sound like
they all got haircuts and decided to make a Martin Hannett meets '87 Prince record. Nic Offer is also restrained now. Good stuff.

Jay Vee's Return (Manon_69), Friday, 5 January 2007 21:49 (eighteen years ago)

the title is just so. bad.

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 5 January 2007 22:17 (eighteen years ago)

Great album, shit title

Davey D (Dave Depper), Friday, 5 January 2007 22:20 (eighteen years ago)

Is there a thread for the most lopsided album greatness/title shitness ratio? 'Cuz we can start this thang right here and now.

Davey D (Dave Depper), Friday, 5 January 2007 22:21 (eighteen years ago)

there must be at least 298329

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 5 January 2007 22:22 (eighteen years ago)

1. Ned Raggett Reads the Almanac

2. Return to Cookie Mountain

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 5 January 2007 22:25 (eighteen years ago)

(actually I have no idea if its great or not but other people seem to think so)

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 5 January 2007 22:26 (eighteen years ago)

I concur. Terrible album title -- great album.

righteousmaelstrom (righteousmaelstrom), Friday, 5 January 2007 22:30 (eighteen years ago)

i like imagining a really fey voice saying 'mistakes' with a lisp. only then is it good.

the table is the table (treesessplode), Friday, 5 January 2007 22:39 (eighteen years ago)

also, the TVotR album is a pocketful of snores and i cannot figure out why the fuck people like it, besides the first track.

He Poos Myth Takes on Cookie Mountain

amen - i get lambasted all the time for saying the preceding two albums are far superior.

ersatz (ersatz), Friday, 5 January 2007 22:46 (eighteen years ago)

Because everyone in the entire world is stupid except me, Pieces of the People We Love was a commercial disaster (peaked at #113, it did). Woe be the dance-punk genre if this equally fantastic album suffers a similar fate. Sigh.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Friday, 5 January 2007 23:28 (eighteen years ago)

"dance punk genre"

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 5 January 2007 23:33 (eighteen years ago)

Or whatever the fuck it's called.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Friday, 5 January 2007 23:34 (eighteen years ago)

I call it "flavor of the month" (this month: "freak folk")

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 5 January 2007 23:37 (eighteen years ago)

(sorry don't mean to be snarky I actually like the first Rapture album okay and we did a show with them a long time ago and even then they were opening their sets with Go4 covers and jumping on tables all in good fun and Luke was a very nice dude too)

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 5 January 2007 23:39 (eighteen years ago)

>> also, the TVotR album is a pocketful of snores and i cannot figure out why the fuck people like it, besides the first track.

Yeah I agree, I Was A Lover is a really great song but I couldn't get into much of the rest of it.

I don't think I've heard Louden Up Now yet, but I liked the 1st !!! album and The Dis-ease 7".

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Friday, 5 January 2007 23:46 (eighteen years ago)

this is the wackest album ive heard in a while.

chaki (chaki), Friday, 5 January 2007 23:52 (eighteen years ago)

i like the title "return to cookie mountain" because it reminds me of a wonderful mountain made of cookies.

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 5 January 2007 23:53 (eighteen years ago)

Reminds you?

Where did you encounter such a place?

Michael J McGonigal (mike mcgonigal), Friday, 5 January 2007 23:56 (eighteen years ago)

Davey D (Dave Depper), Saturday, 6 January 2007 00:23 (eighteen years ago)

!!! was massive at the T&G-fest. My ears bled with joy. This album has some serious expectations to live down.

Three hundred inches from the children. (goodbra), Saturday, 6 January 2007 00:54 (eighteen years ago)

the one time i saw them live it was godawful, but i think half of it was the venue/sound guy.

Bobby Peru (Bobby Peru), Saturday, 6 January 2007 06:23 (eighteen years ago)

Loving this record. Agree about the shit title but the Out Hud/!!! universe has always been balanced between good music with shit titles, crap presentation and the Mouth of Offer - at least the latter isn't so distracting on this album.

Scott Warner (thream), Saturday, 6 January 2007 15:16 (eighteen years ago)

Whiney G. Weingarten (whineyg), Monday, 29 January 2007 18:01 (eighteen years ago)

ok, i'll agree, myth takes is a pretty crap album title.
but who cares, because this album friggin' rules. the martin hannett meets prince comment is 100% OTM. love it.

Emily Bjurnhjam (Emily Bjurnhjam), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 23:21 (eighteen years ago)

I am listening to this album for the first time as I type. So far it's excellent. I don't know much about them but A Certain Ratio keeps coming to mind as a comparison. Who are similar artists?

B.Graff (mr_graff), Monday, 5 February 2007 06:02 (eighteen years ago)

i recognise the album as very good, but i don't think i can handle this style right now
