The guitar bit sounds so familiar! Who knows what it is?

Uh, a Rickenbacker?

Davey D (Dave Depper), Friday, 5 January 2007 22:16 (eighteen years ago)

I can't put my finger on it but I think there's some American record from a few years later that has a similar riff.

This is perhaps my very favorite Beatles song.

You been listening to the Byrds?

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 14:37 (eighteen years ago)

"Turn, Turn, Turn" to be specific.

OK, I finally realized what the song I was thinking of with the sort-of-'What-You're-Doing'-riff is - "What Am I Going to Do" by the Dovers! A classic. (It's on Pebbles Vol. 2).

three years pass...

Ok I don't know how they call this but I absolutely love how they manage to rhyme 'doing' and 'blue and' in the opening line

Look what you're doiing
I'm feeling blue-and
lonely

Any other songs that do this sort of thing?

This drumbeat/riff is also reworked by Jens Lekman on "I Saw Her in the Anti-War Demonstration."

Good call rope, probably the song shakeer was searching for 3 years ago.

Yeah that rhyming technique is totally awesome and one of the many countless reasons I often say that 'Beatles For Sale' is my fave Beatles album, no challops whatsoever

still like these songs more in the american lp contexts for some reason.
