this band is on constellation but their record cover looks like a west end sleeve and they quote "no ufos"

i'll give my thoughts after i listen, but i like the schtick. they also have a song called "end west."

well, the schtick is actually pretty unfocused... maybe i'm just intrigued because i used to listen to gybe a lot

i heard they sound like eno-era talking heads. T/F?

try his "kiss me again" interpretation if you can find it, it's really nice

this is on my list of things to buy, but totally will not unless i spot it for $1 in a bin somewhere, for fear of turning into a total post-dance tripster.

this song is good... it sounds like a small ensemble on constellation, though. soft, pretty, barely percussive (just some 16th hi-hats a kick drum every other measure on the 2-3-4, sometimes) lots of looped vocals and repeating guitars. i like the guitar solo, it has a really good sound. this song definitely does not sound like any-era TH but i get where the eno comparison is coming from. that guitar solo sound could have been produced by eno. this no ufo chant is pretty cool. this is the first thing i've heard from constellation in a long time that made me want to listen again, even if it's just to hear guitar solo.

there are lots of wierd skips in the mp3... can't tell if they're intentional.

that cover looks familiar.
did these guys win some kind of contest or something?

Christopher Costello (CGC), Sunday, 7 January 2007 03:19 (nineteen years ago)

it's a paper cutout version of the generic west end records sleeve... if you've ever been to a used record shop they probably had dozens

unless you already knew that

i'm not really sure i understand all of their dance music fetishization though... like if it was just the atkins sing-along it would make sense because it totally fits the constellation vibe, but throwing in the west end cover makes it seem really scattershot. like, oh dance music! except it isn't actually dance music. or "dance" music like 3xc3pt3r.

twelve years pass...

I had forgotten how good this album is. Maybe should have nominated and voted for it in the 00s poll, though there’s another 5000 albums in that category (and also clearly everyone else has forgotten it too).

i like how with the dead image the only hint of what this band was actually called is the image url

ufo, Saturday, 2 November 2019 03:43 (six years ago)

Haha yeah I kinda deliberately went with that. I had not realised that Sandro Perri was in this band!
