Anyway, yes, they were the ones who provided the brass instrumentation on this song and three of them are shown on the video. This is getting to be, like, weird. And YES, directed by Midge Ure, which is why the very same Steve Strange puppet from the "Mind Of A Toy" video was also evident in this particular video. And -- eh, it's okay. You can't like everything someone does, not even if the two are certifiable geniuses. (Yes, yes, some of you may disagree, esp when it comes to Mr. Ure.)

And yes, even speaking as a huge PIL fan, I had no idea what the hell they would do with "Careering" on the Old Grey Whistle Test. That is the craziest thing I've ever heard, I think. They completely mutated that song into something else unlike any other post punk thing I've ever heard.

Holy crap, PiL's performance of "Careering" on the Old Grey Whistle Test? RULES. I'm serious. Did you know that it was that chaotic mime performance PiL did at around the same time on "American Bandstand" that got me to purchasing Second Edition in the first place? It was right around the time VH1 were airing reruns of AB episodes and I remember very well being shocked when I heard they were going to be on that program and then transfixed as the performance took place. One key memory from that that I will always have from it was having that New Wave boy with all those buttons trying gamely to attract John Lydon's attention while he did his robotic dance. I wonder where he is now. Anyway, back to OGWT -- that was SUPERB. I'm adding it to my favorites now.

Bimble, thought you might get a kick out of the X-Teens. They were early-80s cult heroes in North Carolina. They put out a couple of singles & some albums produced by Don Dixon & Mitch Easter who of course went on to much greater fame producing REM's early work.
