has anyone else been diggin the nice deep sounds of Japanese Synchro System? their new album is balearic and deep at its finest, i thinks.

the website is also beautiful.

is this the thread to talk about buzzin' fly? i'm occasionally shockingly impressed by their stuff, but my knowledge doesn't run very deep. i just saw two or three newish looking 12"s at tweekin and amoeba, but didn't recognize the artists. anything as good as charles webster's mix of "the sad piano" or this one? especially curious about the tejada mix on this.

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Sunday, 7 January 2007 02:40 (eighteen years ago)

I've never heard that artist, but this thread title shows promise!

Good Dog (Good Dog), Sunday, 7 January 2007 02:41 (eighteen years ago)

i never heard buzzin' fly, but i is a s1skin. damn.

the table is the table (treesessplode), Sunday, 7 January 2007 02:50 (eighteen years ago)

lots of buzzin fly is really awful in your face HOUSE...sadly the only good ones are the producers you've already heard of on remix duty, ie charles webster, ame etc....

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 7 January 2007 02:52 (eighteen years ago)

i was afraid of that.

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Sunday, 7 January 2007 02:55 (eighteen years ago)

oh. hmm. are there any particularly good ones?

the table is the table (treesessplode), Sunday, 7 January 2007 02:59 (eighteen years ago)

I've heard some great stuff from Jus-Ed and the Underground Quality label, based out of Connecticut.

There's a CC remix of Japanese Synchro System which is good.

The Nova Dream Sequence album is really good ethereal house/techno, you'd never guess King Britt was behind it.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Sunday, 7 January 2007 03:16 (eighteen years ago)

yeah that king britt is a great record....needs to be played LOUD tho!

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 7 January 2007 03:18 (eighteen years ago)

Good on Buzzin' Fly, according to the missus

Jimpster - Square Up (Tejada mix)
Abyss - Mindgames
Dark Mountain Group - Lose Control
Rodomaal - Insomia (Ame mix)

On Freerange
Square One - Versurvius
Jimpster - Seventh Wave (Dirt Crew rmx + original)
Esoteric - Starwaves EP

I second the Square Up remix. The blockiness of Tejada is rounded off by the houseness - very early morning.

Good Dog (Good Dog), Sunday, 7 January 2007 03:48 (eighteen years ago)

tejada has his moments

friday on the porch (lfam), Sunday, 7 January 2007 04:05 (eighteen years ago)

An understatement.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 7 January 2007 04:06 (eighteen years ago)

tejada's moments are few, but good

the table is the table (treesessplode), Sunday, 7 January 2007 05:16 (eighteen years ago)

throw enough mud...

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 7 January 2007 05:20 (eighteen years ago)

and we all get muddy

the table is the table (treesessplode), Sunday, 7 January 2007 05:21 (eighteen years ago)

I second the consensus re Buzzing Fly - I think they're gradually realising that they want to be part of the Innervisions/Compost Black Label new deeepness but haven't quite thrown off the ghosts of Lazy Dog yet.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Sunday, 7 January 2007 05:36 (eighteen years ago)

the vocal ben watt put over "gazebo" on the buzzin fly comp was enough to put me off the label for life...fucking horrible...

i guess he's fine if you like those house tunes that sound like the pianos in chris rea's "driving home for christmas"

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 7 January 2007 05:43 (eighteen years ago)

Tejada's "Mutation" has been stuck in my head for days . . .

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Monday, 8 January 2007 01:11 (eighteen years ago)

i could imagine how a bad vocal over "gazebo" would ruin it.

just as a matter of personal interest, does anyone besides me like Julien Jabre? the ingrosso re-edit of 'swimming places' always got people hype on the dance floor, and i like his other stuff okay, but most people who know about this stuff sort of give me a blank stare when i talk about him.

the table is the table (treesessplode), Monday, 8 January 2007 04:50 (eighteen years ago)

I love love love Julian Jabre. Especially "Voodance" and "Sun Is Back".

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 8 January 2007 05:00 (eighteen years ago)

YES.

tim, some aussie messaged me on s1sk last night and talked about Tonite Only. he seemed like a real n00b, but i was nice and told him some stuff to download. but really: is this what house is like in Australia? cuz what i got from Tonite Only sucks.

(i hope that you are not friends with them or something, but i will eat my shoe).

the table is the table (treesessplode), Monday, 8 January 2007 05:19 (eighteen years ago)

Ah, Tonite Only, star practitioners of "avant haircut". Search all of my discussions on ILM re "One Love", "TV Rock", "haircut house" et. al.

This is really what it's like at a lot of places. It's kinda like a convenient amalgam of chart house and Kitsune Maison-style rock-bosh.

There's a lot of clubs that play techno, minimal, deep house etc. as well though. But they don't have the same erm visibility. Sadly Honkytonks aka best Melbourne club ever just closed :-(

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 8 January 2007 07:47 (eighteen years ago)

roffle, the honkys site now has "THANKS TO THE DEALERS" in place of the countdown clock!

slackety yax (H2-H4), Monday, 8 January 2007 11:11 (eighteen years ago)

The vocal over Gazebo is spoken word poetry over a tiny intro lop - I think it's lovely. Buzzin' Fly was my personal musical discovery of 2006; all 3 mix CDs they have had out are great with volume 2 probably being the highlight. The Darkmountain Group track mentioned above is fab.

Agreed that Lazy Dog was utter keech.

Arse Farm (the_article_don), Monday, 8 January 2007 16:21 (eighteen years ago)

Mojuba label. can't wait for the new Oracy 12"!

a (rslvd), Monday, 8 January 2007 17:09 (eighteen years ago)

Hmmm... it looks like I might be semi-obliged to go to a Buzzin Fly night at The End on Saturday. Anyone like to reassure me it won't be terrible?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 23:43 (eighteen years ago)

I know next to nothing about this label but the samples on their site don't fill me with hope. One of these appears to be a coffeehouse remix of Low.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 23:46 (eighteen years ago)

two weeks pass...
yep i would go. u just need a ok-ish deep house tolerance. not too many saxes from what i remember. im into this which has another decent remix on the ep

ambrose (ambrose), Thursday, 1 February 2007 20:20 (eighteen years ago)

I again would like to state that the balearic goodness of A Day in the Life by Japanese Synchro System is so fucking beautiful.

the table is the table (treesessplode), Thursday, 1 February 2007 22:09 (eighteen years ago)

so, not only is the new Oracy 12 inch fucking amazing, it's Phonica's single of the week. time for the world to catch on!

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Sunday, 11 February 2007 09:41 (eighteen years ago)

stephan bodzin-bedford, deep, dark and amazing. I'm sure it's been posted on ilx somewhere.

Richard Owen, Wednesday, 21 February 2007 21:46 (eighteen years ago)

one month passes...
I've finally heard the Oracy and yes, indeed, it is amazing. Why's Mojuba gotta make such limited pressings?

matt2, Monday, 26 March 2007 19:24 (eighteen years ago)

karizma - didn't see it comin' - does this go on this thread? i dunno. it's v nice!
