DJs of ILM-What headphones?

Think I'm due a new set, I have those Sennheisers with the plastic band, they're decent and light, good sound quality but don't block out noise so well...plus the cable gets tangled and is really annoying.

I'm thinking of getting the better Sennheisers with the metal strap that alot of people use (apologise I don't know the cat numbers off by heart)

However I also used Pioneer, is it PDX1000 or something, recently, and thought they were cool.

Anyone got any recommendations, maybe the Sennheiser are best, they sure look the nicest without that "I AM A DJ ME" design style!

hdj1000s were the pioneer ones I used...

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 7 January 2007 19:05 (eighteen years ago)

are you looking for DJ headphones or walking around headphones?

For djing, the Sennheiser HD280pro is my pick, they block out noise wonderfully, are really comfortable, and very strong/sturdy/well-made.

For iPodding I use the PX1000, supposedly the best little headphones under 50 bucks, fold up nicely with a case to wrap up the cable. I love them.

Knock a zero off that Dan

no way man, you haven't heard the PX1000? They cost 20 nano-creds and are implanted in your brain.

Yeah, I meant the PX100!

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Sunday, 7 January 2007 23:53 (eighteen years ago)

yeah for djing...I think those sennheisers hd280 pro may well be the best...if they're the ones I think they are.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 8 January 2007 01:04 (eighteen years ago)

I'll second the px100 pair. First pair of phones to last me for over a year because of the fold up case! (Backpacks destroy headphones pretty fast otherwise if you just throw 'em in)

I've had grados and koss porta pro's break for me before but these have stood up really well! Plus they look good, and feel the lightest on your head which is nice.

I stumbled on the hd280s on a lark, didn't know anyone who used them, but my sony DJ headphones broke, the same place everyone else's did. The hd280s I got did such a good job that other DJ's I spun with got them and other people I recommended them too got them. I should get a kick back!

I bought the hd280s not too long ago. Absolutely love em.

What is the swivel like on the hd280's. I'll probably need to replace my Sony V800's soon, and all the new-ish DJ headphones (I've mainly tried the sony v1000's and the pioneer ones) swivel so much that they fall off my head when I try and wear them on one ear like I'm used to. The 800's swivel enough to be able to move, but not so much that they just fall off.

tylero (tylero), Monday, 8 January 2007 03:11 (eighteen years ago)

the 280s have very little movement actually, and since they're a bit oval, when you tilt them so the headband goes around yr neck, it's a bit odd at first, but I swear to god every dj who's used them has found them a bit odd at first, then found them really comfortable.

I've got a pair of HD25s for use with my decks and they're awesome. Great sound isolation and bass response, very comfortable.

Andrew (enneff), Monday, 8 January 2007 05:45 (eighteen years ago)

dj'd at APT in nyc recently and someone else had the 25 or 25SPs and seemed to like them.

The isolation on the 280s are great enough that when I've been waiting to DJ during a show I find myself putting them on just to protect myself.

I see Pioneer HDJ-1000s on ebay for waaaaaay cheaper than in the shops....direct from China! Kinda tempting to pick up a set...I used them and they seemed good, it would be postponing getting those Sennheisers which most people I know agree are the best...

HD25s are pretty cool yeah, that's the set I've been using, not good sound isolation in a club I've found but they're really lightweight and comfy.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 8 January 2007 12:25 (eighteen years ago)

Sometimes, super-cheap electronics from Chinese eBay sellers can be fakes, I think.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 8 January 2007 13:21 (eighteen years ago)

that did cross my mind...they look real and others bidded...hmmm

have I any recourse if they are fake?

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 8 January 2007 13:42 (eighteen years ago)

considering I just....bought them before considering that possibility too deeply!

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 8 January 2007 13:51 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, if they're a fake you should just complain, it'll be ok. some headphones from china def are fakes, but not all, i think.

toby (tsg20), Monday, 8 January 2007 14:15 (eighteen years ago)

I haven't paid him yet so I messaged him and said can he give me the warranty number or similar so I can check with Pioneer if they are real....

this should work right? worst case scenario he doesn't do this, I don't pay and it becomes a dispute...but my ebay rep can't be affected too badly by not paying for it if he refuses to give me this...

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 8 January 2007 14:18 (eighteen years ago)

if I pay then wait and see...will a subsequent complaint do me any good? I mean won't it just be "ok this guy is a bad seller, thanks for that...we can't do anything tho".

sony v600s have been my trusted dj'ing friend since 1995 or so. i've probably had three pairs in 12 years, one busted because it was stepped on, and its usually the headpiece that eventually breaks. the cans always sounded great. they are incredibly reliable, and once you burn them in they sound amazing forever. i don't have a big head or anything (and i know this because i've put phones on after my radio partner has worn them and his head is HUGE) and these fit snugly. i love 'em and have hesitated to buy sennheisers because they seem too lightweight and flimsy. i HATE the silver v700s with the pivoting ears, they are always sliding off my head. stick with the 600s!
