firstworldman (firstworldman), Monday, 8 January 2007 20:29 (eighteen years ago)

For what it's worth, I heard early word that the Replacements (in some form) may play.

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Monday, 8 January 2007 20:44 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah what kind of mediocre band is reforming to play this? The Police to thread.

Stuh-du-du-du-du-du-du-denka (jingleberries), Monday, 8 January 2007 21:07 (eighteen years ago)

StanM (StanM), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 09:43 (eighteen years ago)

Christopher Costello (CGC), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 10:13 (eighteen years ago)

Billboard.com understands she [Bjork] may appear at a major U.S. festival in the coming months. (Source)

THIS MEANS COACHELLA PEOPLE.

Thomas Inskeep (submeat), Friday, 19 January 2007 18:22 (eighteen years ago)

LA Times confirms RATM.

also Bjork, Chili Peppers, Arcade Fire, Interpol, Willie Nelson, the Roots, Manu Chao, the Decemberists, Arctic Monkeys, Sonic Youth, Crowded House, Air, Tiƫsto and Kings of Leon.

yours fondly, harshaw. (mrgn), Monday, 22 January 2007 02:54 (eighteen years ago)

In sum, no reason for me to go.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 22 January 2007 03:07 (eighteen years ago)

i love reading the lineups for these things, because they make me want to vomit from laughter.

the table is the table (treesessplode), Monday, 22 January 2007 03:10 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah this is pretty fucking boring. Guess they liked the idea of this thing making money.

Stuh-du-du-du-du-du-du-denka (jingleberries), Monday, 22 January 2007 06:32 (eighteen years ago)

oh you guys are just party poopers. i like bjork!

max (maxreax), Monday, 22 January 2007 06:35 (eighteen years ago)

Crowded House??

(Oh. wiki: The group is set to re-form for a 12 month world tour commencing in 2007.)

StanM (StanM), Monday, 22 January 2007 07:20 (eighteen years ago)

But in Southern California rock circles, there is very little that could compete with the excitement of a Rage Against the Machine reunion.

I'm not sure how to read this "in Southern California rock circles" : is it a compliment or a putdown?

StanM (StanM), Monday, 22 January 2007 07:33 (eighteen years ago)

Depends on how many critics are in the room.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 22 January 2007 07:42 (eighteen years ago)

That new Air album is SPECTACULAR on headphones, but will they be wise enogh to hand out a pair to every audience member at Coachella. 'Cause Air live is tres wack .

Jay Vee's Return (Manon_69), Monday, 22 January 2007 07:59 (eighteen years ago)

nitzer ebb and vnv nation?! ack!

geeta (geeta), Monday, 22 January 2007 08:23 (eighteen years ago)

Did Zach de la Rocha ever actually make a solo album? Or did he just do that one song with DJ Shadow? I know he was doing a shitload of charity stuff in all these years off; he financed a large battered women's shelter in L.A.... but did he make any other music and just not release it?

Tiki Theater Xymposium (Bent Over at the Arclight), Monday, 22 January 2007 09:54 (eighteen years ago)

LOL! According to Stereogum, the presale password here was Roxanne.

StanM (StanM), Monday, 22 January 2007 11:52 (eighteen years ago)

Wait, Travis?

As usual, a few bands I'd love to see scattered in a lineup that just makes me shrug. If enough of said bands appear on one day of the lineup, maybe I'll go, but we'll see.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:04 (eighteen years ago)

To anyone else weirded out by that list's order: it seems that they had an alphabetical list, divided it in two, and then combined taking one name from each list at a time.

Just so you know.

max (maxreax), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:11 (eighteen years ago)

Oh god, I just realized Damon will be there. RUN AWAY.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:12 (eighteen years ago)

the list, for the most part, reads like a who's who of indie bands that suck shit and 'major' bands that suck shit. yeah, bjork and air will always have some awesome shit going/gone on, but RATM? Rufus Wainwright? Peaches? Grizzly Bear? It's like a clueless 'hip' college student's iTunes. The only thing it's missing is a few requisite jazz albums (Kind of Blue, Bitches Brew), every Radiohead album ever made, and the Beatles.

the table is the table (treesessplode), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:20 (eighteen years ago)

YOU FORGOT MBV DAMN YOU. Oh wait maybe I should be glad.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:21 (eighteen years ago)

Part of the problem is just the whole pissiness about the acts not playing anywhere else nearby -- I know all the contractual reasons for it, but still, fuck that. Jarvis Cocker plays Southern California for the first time in over a decade and he does it out there instead of a show in LA itself = ARGH.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:23 (eighteen years ago)

oh ned, just jet across the pond if you want to see mr. cocker. i liked the DJ set i saw him do a few years back.

the table is the table (treesessplode), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:25 (eighteen years ago)

aren't they allowed to book other shows after the festival sells out or time a second show a certain number of days after the festival if no sell-out occurs? and secret shows usually come up, later in the game.

boyant (Boyant), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:29 (eighteen years ago)

One of the better rap lineups they've had, even if small. Lupe Fiasco + Pharaohe Monche + Ghostface + the Coup is obvious but still pretty good.

max (maxreax), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:34 (eighteen years ago)

and secret shows usually come up, later in the game.

True, Bauhaus did one before their show a couple of years back. Which I missed, alas. As I did the Pixies one. (Basically just go to the Coach House the day before it all starts and see who shows.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:36 (eighteen years ago)

get thee to pomona, ned.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:37 (eighteen years ago)

That's what I'm saying! (The Coach House is located there, see.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:38 (eighteen years ago)

Wait, sorry, brain lock -- GLASS House. Coach House is down south.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:39 (eighteen years ago)

http://www.theglasshouse.us/v1/home.html

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:39 (eighteen years ago)

hey the glass house is a noise venue in williamsburg!

the table is the table (treesessplode), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:44 (eighteen years ago)

the Coach House was an infamous pub-slash-stripclub in North Vancouver. "was"

boyant (Boyant), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:47 (eighteen years ago)

yeah duh.

williamsburg one is now called glasslands.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:50 (eighteen years ago)

Travis: yeah, they have a new album in June (?) called Open. Produced by Nigel Godrich and Brian Eno, I think I've read very recently but I can't find it right now.

StanM (StanM), Monday, 22 January 2007 18:33 (eighteen years ago)

Richie Hawtin, Soulwax, Erol Alkan and Faithless

yay

yours fondly, harshaw. (mrgn), Monday, 22 January 2007 18:39 (eighteen years ago)

Soulwax: nite versions, I assume?

(Nightwatchman = Tom Morello's solo project, right?)

StanM (StanM), Monday, 22 January 2007 18:51 (eighteen years ago)

this is going to be some stupid ass shit.

chaki (chaki), Monday, 22 January 2007 18:52 (eighteen years ago)

i was afraid that erol would wind up playing : ( now i do have to go.

and yeah, soulwax is playing a nite versions set. kind of wish i could get all my trendy amazing electro dj's in one sitting though. but day 2 is where it's at.

Umm... JAMC? wtf?

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 09:36 (eighteen years ago)

How official is that poster?

StanM (StanM), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 10:25 (eighteen years ago)

It wouldn't be the first time something is spelled wrong on a poster, but The Nightwatchman is listed as The Night Watchman on that poster. Whether or not that means it's fake, I have no idea...

StanM (StanM), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 10:32 (eighteen years ago)

Hell, it's true! And the error has been corrected!

M@tt He1g3s0n: oh u mad cuz im stylin on u (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 18:06 (eighteen years ago)

You guys are nuts; there's at least fifteen bands I'd enjoy seeing on that list. For fuck's sake, you don't want to attend Manu Chao and Willie Nelson?

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 18:23 (eighteen years ago)

They're playing together? King of Bong?

StanM (StanM), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 18:25 (eighteen years ago)

there's a bunch of stuff i'd like to see on this bill.

even shit like red hot chili peppers that i'm sooo sick of and "hate" in theory i'd be at the show, half-drunk and then all like "OOOOHHH DAAAAAMMMM MAN THEY'RE PLAYING SUCK MY KISS - THAT'S MY JAMM!"

M@tt He1g3s0n: oh u mad cuz im stylin on u (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 18:26 (eighteen years ago)

I hope they play Soul to Squeeze while I am trudging the half mile to my car. Leaving during the headliner shaved hours off exit times of previous years.

yours fondly, harshaw. (mrgn), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 19:02 (eighteen years ago)

I like a bunch of the acts, but I've seen so many before (and the DJs play all the time in LA). The only things I'd be really excited to see are:

Friday:
The Jesus and Mary Chain (barely, have seen them like 10 times and they were sucking at the end)

Saturday:
Cornelius

Sunday:
The Klaxons

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 19:24 (eighteen years ago)

ugh, im supposed to be in barclona with my parents during coachella

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 21:11 (eighteen years ago)

well, prolly not el bulli. but maybe something like el bulli

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 21:11 (eighteen years ago)

TAKE THE GODDAMN DINNER. Then go out later and don't tell your parents where, simple. (Alternately, explain you are gathering material for the next book.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 21:12 (eighteen years ago)

you guys sure this isn't the right poster?

Urban Dance Squad YES!

tylero (tylero), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 07:07 (eighteen years ago)
