Hosted by MC Serch. Anyone else watching this?

Rule No. 38: A dildo in the face is not a good look.

Marmot (marmotwolof), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 04:20 (eighteen years ago)

Why didn't they just call the show "MC Serch"?

A-ron Hubbard (Hurting), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 04:22 (eighteen years ago)

I think this is my new favorite show.

jodi, samurai photographer (burun), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 04:31 (eighteen years ago)

LOL at Serch cussing out Weezer looking dude

Marmot (marmotwolof), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 04:31 (eighteen years ago)

pretty hillarious. $hamrock and persia seem to be the best so far

jaxon (jaxon), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 05:11 (eighteen years ago)

I like Persia a lot. The others... not so much (tho that Paul Wall looking dude was okay). Show was hilarious.. that "ghetto revival" shit had me rolling.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 05:14 (eighteen years ago)

"that paul wall looking dude" could = almost all of them

jaxon (jaxon), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 05:53 (eighteen years ago)

Which one was Shamrock?

Marmot (marmotwolof), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 06:00 (eighteen years ago)

I haven't seen this yet, but there's this white rapper at my school who settles/starts 'feuds' via absolutely terrible diss tracks. My high school is in a nice area of Columbia, MO (once ranked second best city to live in--not that it means anything, but you get the point)

Right, yeah he was pretty good. John Brown has got to go.

Marmot (marmotwolof), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 08:06 (eighteen years ago)

In that picture, he is more like the Richard Kiel-meets-Lyor Cohen of the show.

Glad to see Serch is still working "IT IS NOT A GAME!!!" really hard.

Andy_K (Andy_K), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 08:11 (eighteen years ago)

Pretty much everyone besides $hamrock, Jus Rhyme, Sullee and Persia was chosen on cringe-factor alone.

I like the ads for the Beastie Boys movie in the commercial breaks.

Whiney G. Weingarten (whineyg), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 15:07 (eighteen years ago)

I also love the one dude who keeps saying "ghetto revival" as if he doesn't know what the words "ghetto" or "revival" mean.

Whiney G. Weingarten (whineyg), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 15:19 (eighteen years ago)

I saw a little bit of it. Not sure how I feel about it other than thinking the woman with the line about c-sections should have made it in.

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 15:29 (eighteen years ago)

I wish this was playing in the UK. I always loved Serch. What's the Prime Minister Pete Nice up to?

This show is produced by the Ego Trip guys, right?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 17:52 (eighteen years ago)

For some reason I find American dudes who identify with hip-hop culture while playing up their Irish roots to be really scary.

Haha, you and Grandmaster Flash. Did you see his face after JB rapped for him? Looked like he smelled something foul.

This show is produced by the Ego Trip guys, right?

Yep, full title is Egotrip's The White Rapper Show.

Marmot (marmotwolof), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 20:59 (eighteen years ago)

Have we done an Ego Trip C/D yet? I like them a lot overall. The deliberate "edgy" provocativeness of some of their stuff gets grating, but in short bursts they're funny and pretty much on target. The same tone held through in most of this first episode, I'm hoping it carries throughout the show.

Hoosteen (Hoosteen), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 21:36 (eighteen years ago)

I don't see how anyone could possibly vote dud on Ego Trip (the magazine, the books or any of the VH1 Specials.) VH1 would be a million times better if those guys programmed every show on there.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 21:39 (eighteen years ago)

A one-liner from one of the Ego Trip shows made me laugh harder than anything else I've ever heard on VH1. They were asking various celebrities what ethnicity or race the various weirder muppets were, and one of the panelists said he thought Animal was Armenian, "because I saw him wearing a tracksuit and shoes one time."

pdf (Phil Freeman), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 21:48 (eighteen years ago)

Hoosteen (Hoosteen), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 21:53 (eighteen years ago)

Whoa:

Persia Speaks......

You are just sloppy, churlish, childish, disgusting, ugly - inside and out, clearly ignorant, distasteful, you look like you have a wrenchful stench, degrading, you are a loathsome disease, you totally kill all human senses. Your worthless, and I'm sure Donal Trump should of roasted you than Rosie. Looks like you deserve a dust bath. I certainly believe your parents should of went through other routes ofintimacy.

If Jesus still laid in his tomb, no doubt he would be turning after knowing you were created.

I wouldn't be surprised if the producers took him aside and said "look man, you're just not coming across as anything" and that was his idea of bringing the charisma.

Marmot (marmotwolof), Saturday, 10 February 2007 04:19 (eighteen years ago)

In the v-spot extras the Ego Trip dudes said that the rappers spent a lot of time talking about how the show would be edited and the way they would come across on TV.

"We had to tell em to quit doing that shit cause we can't show them talking about reality TV on a fuckin reality TV show!"

I'm gonna have to disagree with myself now. John Brown FTW!

marmotwolof, Saturday, 24 February 2007 04:49 (eighteen years ago)

I'm really glad Jus Rhyme is gone. His "hug black and brown folks every day, black panther pride poor folks around the world unite" thing came off as so smugly privileged and unintentionally racist.

I don't really think any of them have any ability at rapping (and the three of them were all DESTROYED at the Shelter. Persia was my favorite and would probably be good on record; I just wish she could've kept her memory together. Of the ones left I'm vying for Shamrock because at least he seems honest and he can sort of flow.

filthy dylan, Saturday, 24 February 2007 19:11 (eighteen years ago)

I'll second that.

marmotwolof, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 04:45 (eighteen years ago)

Here's what happened at Southpaw:

--They aired the episode. Everyone cheered for $ham and booed John Brown. Everyone flipped when Clinton Sparks did the flyaway dance. It really felt like justice was served!
--All the guest rappers took forever to get their shit set up (surprise!) so the ego trip guys had to stall crazily. Sacha Jenkins was looking mad dapper in sports coat and Black Flag T-shirt.
--Serch did some freestyles. His freestyle about how the manager was getting mad that everyone was standing near the fire exit was tres manifique. Highlight of the evening for sure.
--G-Child came out and did her thing. Cheers and boos. Did a rap about a broken heart which i thought was a metaphor for drug addiction, then realized she's nowhere near that clever.
--More stalling. They opened the mic up to the audience for freestyling... all of which ranged from pukeworthy to abortions.
--Persia came out and did her thing to mad cheers. She kept saying "You know this one..." but no one did! She had a red dress, green ribbon belt and a bow: she looked like a Christmas present! She told John Brown the next dildo is going inside him. Ew!
--John Brown and the whole fucking Ghetto Revival showed up and crowded the PA with too many voices. They played forever and cleared the room. Dude rolls very, very, very deep.
--J-Zone didn't get to spin records like promised. He ate birthday cake.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 06:24 (eighteen years ago)

hahaha so how many dudes are in Ghetto Revival?

marmotwolof, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 06:30 (eighteen years ago)

RE: 4 WRONG THINGS WITH THIS SHOW

Paul has had a hatred of John Brown that equates the relationship between Isreal and Palestine. Paul being the Isreali side and he doesn't appreciate the John Brown's ghetto revival because the term ghetto was coined during WWII in Nazi Germany. John Brown however was merely a crusader to revive the ghettos of America. Being African American you would think Paul would appreciate his generosity to bring back his people's neighborhoods. John Brown is like Palestine because he has been blowing up the West Bank (west side) since he was annointed the king of the suburbs. Paul however refuses to recognize the validity of John Brown's title. Which is very similar to the way that Palestine won't recognize the state of Isreal. It is a very ironic and complex situation. It's a "MC Holy War"(don't steal that phrase i just coined it)

yeah c'mon people "car wars" was fucking terrible.

that audience in "hell" was wack as shit though. like they didn't even care. what's the point of having dudes go up to rucker park just to have the finale competition be totally lame?

hstencil, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 18:12 (eighteen years ago)

on the one hand why would they care, it was probably shot before any episodes aired, so it was just these two unknowns coming out on stage

but yeah it shoulda been a rowdier crowd, it looked like some people they grabbed outta times square in the middle of the afternoon

dmr, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 18:30 (eighteen years ago)

yeah at least like invite people who care about hip-hop to the finale, y'know? even the random rucker crowd was more into it.

There's a new season spin-off of last winter's hit MC competition Ego Trip's The (White) Rapper Show brewing and this time, it's all about the ladies. The as-yet-untitled sister series will search for a great, white and female hip-hop hope. There are no details yet on when the show is set to hit the air -- in fact, it hasn't even filmed yet. Producers will be holding open auditions starting Saturday, Aug. 25 in Chicago at Dave and Busters (address: 1030 North Clark) from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Interested ladies should bring a photo, a bio and a CD with three tracks. If you don't hail from Chi-town, don't worry: future auditions are planned for Philadelphia, Atlanta, Miami and Los Angeles. For more info, email rap✧✧✧@vh1st✧✧✧.c✧✧.

We couldn't be more excited to cover a show that has the potential to be Flavor of Love in iambic pentameter. Maybe the all-girl slant on this is retribution for the fact that Persia was completely and utterly robbed last season.

UPDATE: The competition is for female rappers of all races, not just white women, as previously reported. See how that works? First season was white, second is girls...maybe the third will be animals? MC Skat Kat, get ready for career resuscitation!

jaxon, Thursday, 13 September 2007 04:11 (seventeen years ago)

sorry, there's some strikethroughs that didn't comethroughs

Maybe she'll come back for a cameo and shit on the floor.

marmotwolof, Thursday, 13 September 2007 05:06 (seventeen years ago)

Awesome! The girls were better this season, esp. Persia (ok...act. I don't remember any other girl, but Persia kicked ass!).

Tape Store, Thursday, 13 September 2007 05:15 (seventeen years ago)

G-Child the hilarious little muppet and Misfit the hot clueless Britishes girl who just got a nakey lady fairy thing tattooed on her arm in that pic with Shamrock I just posted.
