Mos Def - True Magic?

It leaked!

So the record company released it!

And quickly withdrew it! Announcing it will be released with different tracks in a month or two.

I had wondered why Fopp was selling this, it has no sleeve art at all. (apart from a very thin sticker)

So, should we all dash out and get one for investment purposes?

Or is that what they want us to do......

Ha, investment purposes. I'm hoping the retooled version will be better, because this one stinks for the most part.

i saw this mark g. and wondered exactly the same.
clever marketing, or, big mess of a release ?

i'm thinking big mess. it sold 11,000 or so before it was recalled, and they are depending upon record shops to return the CDs. there are angry murmurings on mos's message board from fans who bought on the first day, and now feel they are expected to buy again.

its mos's last album for geffen, and i think it was just meant to slip out and then disappear. then he got a grammy nom for the single, and the rerelease was hastily announced.

Am I the only one who doesnt hate it?

I don't hate it. But as with Mos most Def...er, most Mos Def records, it's a really mixed bag.

Candy: tastes like chicken, if chicken was a candy. (Austin, Still), Thursday, 11 January 2007 23:26 (eighteen years ago)

seventeen years pass...

/\different austin btw. great display name, friend!

revisiting this for the first time since it was new...

...and like, what if he had just released one 12" that was just "perfect timing" with "lifetime" on the b-side? and maybe "there is a way" as an extra b-side bonus beats type cut?

because man, those last two songs are just transcendental. incredibly soulful. classic mos def.

big sigh. i'd love an investigative deep dive into what actually happened with this album.
