This Kathy Diamond release produced by Maurice Fulton is pretty much perfect for a Disco Explosion: http://www.discogs.com/release/820380

Dan - what can you tell me about the Canal Room? I'll be in NYC on the 27th.

jambalaya backgammon (grady), Friday, 12 January 2007 16:35 (nineteen years ago)

It has a great sound system designed by my college housemate. It's loud. It's terribly expensive and annoying. It used to be called Shine before the redesign. I dunno, it depends who's throwing the party and who else is DJing if people will show and it'll be fun. I'll go anyway because I missed Escort's first two shows over the summer.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 12 January 2007 16:50 (nineteen years ago)

The website says $10 at the door that night, $8 w/ rsvp. Ive got a 7am flight to LAX the next day but i'm going to try and make it. Have you heard from people who saw them live?

jambalaya backgammon (grady), Friday, 12 January 2007 17:26 (nineteen years ago)

(U2 tribute band the night before costs twice as much).

jambalaya backgammon (grady), Friday, 12 January 2007 17:32 (nineteen years ago)

and when I say expensive, I don't just mean the door...it's kind of a bottle service place. For a while they were trying to appeal to both the hipsters and the blingsters...Justine D and Dave P were booking some shows there for a while...I saw Colder play with Trevor Jackson DJ there, and I saw Mu perform there...but shockingly, hipster blogger music nerds DON'T normally order 200 dollar bottles of champagne, but bridge and tunnel hip-hop fans do...

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 12 January 2007 17:43 (nineteen years ago)

will i get busted for packing a flask?

jambalaya backgammon (grady), Friday, 12 January 2007 17:50 (nineteen years ago)

only if they catch you.

and yes. definitely. they have large bouncers.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 12 January 2007 17:58 (nineteen years ago)

arghhhhh i really hate when DJs/bands i want to see play at canal room that place is fucking awful

joseph (joseph), Saturday, 13 January 2007 05:53 (nineteen years ago)

(except for, as dan notes, the sound. everything else about that place needs to be destroyed though. ditto cielo.)

joseph (joseph), Saturday, 13 January 2007 05:54 (nineteen years ago)

I've posted the Kathy Diamond track mentioned above on http://dilate.choonz.com a couple of days back

Out now: L.S.B. - Fog

Review
Tracklisting:
A) F.O.G.
B) F.O.G. DUB

Info:
L.S.B. are the well known Pete Herbert (Reverso 68) and BabyG Fernandez from Spain. After their amazing debut release 'Original Highway Delight' that was supported by the crème de la crème in the scene, here is the much anticipated follow up. It's enough to listen only once to the original version of F.O.G. for this tune to stay in your head for a whole week!! Amazing disco tunage!

TIGA: Great record. Disco! Love it..
Dimitri from Paris: Yup I play that one, made an edit of both sides!
DJ Naughty: its great disco! i love lsb and will definetly drop it..
Laurent Garnier: the A side is the one for me. wahou oh ho ou oh oh !!!!
Shit Robot: 10/10 what a great single, both versions are
outstanding! a track for every occasion.
Jerry Bouthier (mixmag - dmc update mag): like it a lot, perfect to start the evening. great sample! in the box.
Dr Beat (eskimo): 10/10 I´ve played the original in my last gig, people just gets cracy when the song fill the whole dancefloor whith the freshs and positive vibe. I've always been a fan of pete's productions and respec for Baby G. my spanish-eskimo sister.
FM Brussel Radio: 9/10 right on!!
Smos & Baby B (Elastix, Café d'Anvers): 10/10 Another bomb from the man who can't do wrong. This is really the stuff we dig. The original mix bursts with disco-funk energy and the instrumental is the one for the head. We'll be slamming this for a long time.
DJ Stephen (Dirty Dancing): 9/10 Happy Disco on the dancefloor! Love it!

gr80 how was the night at the canal room?

jergïns, Friday, 10 August 2007 23:15 (eighteen years ago)

didn't go.

ended up at a few house parties, closing out the night at Union Pool- where i was pleastly surprised to find Dan Selzer behind the decks.

missed that flight the next morning, too. trying to make it from wburg to newark in the middle of the night via trains while drunk is a bad idea.
