Can someone please explain the appeal of Beefheart's Trout Mask Replica to me?

I have never understood the acclaim given to this record. It is not that I don't like psychedelia or even Beefheart's other efforts. But this album? I can't take it.

well...I think the "trick" is to "turn off and float downstream". If you have the patience, the atonality will start to makes sense in a while. After about ten listens or so..hmmm....

Even if you don't recognise the venue (the late lamented Granby Tavern at Cemetry Junction) Mark, I think the "NUMBER OF ALBUMS OWNED: 1,200ish" is sort of a giveaway that that was quite a while ago!
