Los Angeles, CA January 12, 2007 -Alternative rock originator and one of music's most influential figures, Perry Farrell, has announced that on May 15, 2007 he will hit the airwaves with his most anticipated creation to date: Satellite Party. His new group is a bold and ambitious project that finds the founder of Lollapalooza in his first post-Jane's Addiction recording effort, creating an innovative conceptual album entitled Ultra Payloaded (Columbia Records). The idea behind Satellite Party was born out of Farrell's passionate belief that one step at a time people can change the world, and with this endeavor, he is launching a musical movement to do just that. Weaving together an array of genres with Farrell's modernist thinking, the music of Satellite Party tells a story through a collaborative brain trust of artists, musicians and environmentalists called The Solutionists, who seek to redesign and come up with solutions for the world.

Blending sounds as varied as rock, electro, urban beats and symphony, Farrell enlisted guitar virtuoso Nuno Bettencourt with new musicians Kevin Figueiredo on drums, Etty Lau Farrell on background vocals and Carl Restivo on bass. The album, produced by Farrell, co-produded by Nuno Bettencourt and executive produced by Steve Lillywhite, features a host of guests participating in the recording, including The Red Hot Chili Peppers Flea and John Frusciante, UK production duo/beat-makers Hybrid, New Order/ Joy Division bassist Peter Hook, down tempo pioneers Thievery Corporation, Porno for Pyros' guitarist Peter DiStefano, Black Eyed Pea's Fergie, film composer Harry Gregson-Williams (Chronicles of Narnia, Kingdom of Heaven), and a 30-piece orchestra.

One of the album's highlights features an unreleased Jim Morrison vocal track, the first unheard Morrison performance in almost 30 years. Entitled "Woman In The Window," Morrison sings against a backdrop of Farrell's music, "Just try and stop us, we're going to love" before the song culminates with an elegant piano outro. Farrell calls the track the mantra of The Solutionists. Other tracks include the "Wish Upon A Dog Star," which is also the album's first single, "Kinky," and "Celebrate," a Sly Stone-like groove marrying calypso and disco. Farrell also shows his softer side on the tender "Awesome," written about seeing the world from the heavens, which marries David Bowie-esque vocals with the understated beauty of Nick Drake.

Too bad, cause you missed:

Farrell also shows his softer side on the tender "Awesome," written about seeing Fergie piss her pants, which marries David Bowie-esque vocals with the understated beauty of Nick Drake.

EXTREME LYRICS

"Watching, Waiting"

Hanging above the ground
All my limbs are bound
You're on the right hand
With your head down
Tears from eyes that cannot see
He took the blame from me
So shall it be written
So shall it be done

Watching, waiting
Staring at the Son
Not even knowing
Who you are

Three hours have gone by
We start to question why
Darkness falls in finding out
Why you must die
We can no longer see the Son
The three untie into one
Please forgive us Father
We know not what we've done

Period period period (Period period period), Friday, 12 January 2007 23:47 (eighteen years ago)

I was lucky enough to get to attend the orchestra session for this album, and i gotta say i was very impressed. Granted, I'm about the biggest Jane Addiction fanboy there ever was- but that actually made the past, um, decade or so pretty disappointing for me on the perry farrel front. And, i saw farrell do satalitte party live at lollapalooza 2005 and it was AWFUL. So in other words, my expectations were very very low and i came out pleasently surprised.

i heard about 4-5 tracks in all. there's a track called "satalitte party" that's like a ho-down (seriously) and one that's very disco Scissor Sisters style.

The track with Morrison is very pretty and hippy polemic in that way only farrell can pull off (not to say he always pulls it off, but the guy does better than most.) The story from perry himself goes that the tape came to him via some crystal healer type folks in israel. it was morrison reciting something and NO ONE else knew it existed. Perry even took it to danny sugarman before he died and sugarman had no idea what it was. There was some concern that the track might not make the final album due to legal stuff, so i'm glad to see it included.

In fact, I'm incredible excited to hear the whole album.

I'd want to say you were giving signs of hope, but I admit now I'm even more wary.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 15 January 2007 04:50 (eighteen years ago)

was it the crystal healer types or the ho-down?

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 15 January 2007 04:54 (eighteen years ago)

i hear they're clearing out dollar bin space for this as we speak.

GOD PUNCH TO HAWKWIND (yournullfame), Monday, 15 January 2007 06:38 (eighteen years ago)

i hear they're clearing out dollar bin space for this as we speak.

hehehe. i can't even argue that point. and yeah- i didn't do the best job selling it. coulda said it sounded like joy division meets captain beefheart i suppose. maybe it was only good cause we were in a trillion dollar studio, but the record had an ambition that really impressed me. and i've been itching to hear it again since that day, for whatever that's worth.
