All I ever wanted to do wasRun my fingers through his curly locksMend his underwear and darn his socksFetch his slippers and remove his shoesWipe his glasses when he's read the newsRub his forehead with a gentle touchMornings after when he's had a little too muchKiss him gently when he cuddles nearAnd give him babies one for every year
So you see that I don't want him you can have himYou can have him cos I don't want himBecause he's not the man for meThen I'd close the window while he soundly sleptThen I'd raid the icebox where the food is keptI'd fix the breakfast that would please him mostEggs and coffee some apricot juice and some buttered toastOh oh then I'd go out and buy the papersAnd when they've been read spend the balance of the day in bed
So you see that I don't want him you can have himYou can have him cos I don't want him because he's not my manI don't want him you can have himYou can have him I don't want himYou can have him I don't want himCos he's not the man for me

The First Noel, the Angels did sayWas to certain poor shepherds in fields as they layIn fields where they lay keeping their sheepOn a cold winter's night that was so deep.Noel, Noel, Noel, NoelBorn is the King of Israel!
They looked up and saw a starShining in the East beyond them farAnd to the earth it gave great lightAnd so it continued both day and night.Noel, Noel, Noel, NoelBorn is the King of Israel!
And by the light of that same starThree Wise men came from country farTo seek for a King was their intentAnd to follow the star wherever it went.Noel, Noel, Noel, NoelBorn is the King of Israel!
This star drew nigh to the northwestO'er Bethlehem it took its restAnd there it did both Pause and stayRight o'er the place where Jesus lay.Noel, Noel, Noel, NoelBorn is the King of Israel!
Then entered in those Wise men threeFull reverently upon their kneeAnd offered there in His presenceTheir gold and myrrh and frankincense.Noel, Noel, Noel, NoelBorn is the King of Israel!
Then let us all with one accordSing praises to our heavenly LordThat hath made Heaven and earth of noughtAnd with his blood mankind has bought.Noel, Noel, Noel, NoelBorn is the King of Israel!

"Why can't I accept the fact she's chosen him and simply let them be?"
If it were me, I'd have put "...and simply let ME be."
When somebody breaks your heart, you don't wanna give them too much credit! "She's chosen him and let me be" just sounds more sympathetic to the narrator's misery; "let THEM be" is like rubbing it in that the singer's been dissed. I dunno. All I know is that if I ever do a cover version of that tune, that lyric is gettin' a makeover.

When I see youre face like the mornin sun you spark me to shineTell all the world, my need is fulfilled and thats a new designAs long as youre near, there is no fear of a victoryBut when I'm away, influences stray my mind to disagreeI wanna see your face in the morning sun, ignite my energyThe cause and effect of you has brought new meaning in my life to me
Gonna tell a story morning glory all about the serpentine fireGonna tell a story morning glory all about the serpentine fire
Oh yeah oh yeah oh yeah, oh yeah oh yeah oh yeahI need to see your face like the morning sun, ignite my energyThe cause and effect of you has brought new meaning in my life to meThe moments I find when I'm inclined to do my bestNegative wins when I give in and then I lose the test (not many times)
Gonna tell a story morning glory all about the serpentine fireSurely as life begun, you will as one battle with the serpentine fire
Oh yeah oh yeah oh yeah, oh yeah oh yeah oh yeahSurely as life begun, you will as one battle with the serpentine fireSurely as life begun, you will as one battle with the serpentine fireGonna tell a story morning glory all about the serpentine fire
What the hell is this song supposed to be about? A drug? A person? God? At first I thought the "you" they're adressing is the "serpentine fire", but in the end they say "you" will battle with the serpentine fire. And why do they say "fear of a victory" instead of defeat? Maybe I shouldn't even try to make sense of these lyrics.

Now why would a singer want to insult themselves by singing "...that saved A WRETCH LIKE ME?"
Sweet Honey In The Rock, the acapella group, didn't like it either - they altered it to something like "...that set my spirit free."
