Was the US Maple documentary ever released legitimately?

The 2001 documentary during the Acre Thrills recording is so awesome, but seeing it on Youtube isn't as awesome. Does this ever turn up anywhere on VHS or DVD? Was it ever sent out as a promo item or some such?

I have no idea, but I'm bumpin' this one cause I want to know too!

The guy who shot the Acre Thrills thing is looking to gather more footage and release a full documentary. Some info here and a bit less here.

It's a pretty great look into their personalities, esp. Al Johnson and the guitarist who keeps saying he's "got an idea for the opening sequence". It's also neat to find out what Al's pencil scribblings meant on his lyric sheets, as far as when to go hoarse and when to properly enunciate and whatnot...

Thanks Mike!

Did you see my RTX post? If not, that "Brooke Shields" line may surprise you when you hear it...

Black Onni (Roger Fidelity), Monday, 15 January 2007 03:36 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, and just in case that filmmaker does a vanity search and stumbles upon this board, I will buy this the day of it's release even if it costs a hundred dollars. For serious.

Spine Swine (Roger Fidelity), Monday, 15 January 2007 03:41 (nineteen years ago)

I know US Maple was planning (and probably still are) a east/midwest tour this winter so the director could get more live footage of the new line-up.

I think the movie in a completed form is still aways off in the future.

Excited to see it though, the "Acre Thrills" stuff is amazing

chris besinger (chris besinger), Monday, 15 January 2007 18:48 (nineteen years ago)

In the meantime, let's imagine that Steven Spielberg or somone is a huge US Maple fan and wants to make a big budget movie about them. Let's cast it:
Tom Cruise as Al Johnson
...

Mike Dixn (Mike Dixon), Monday, 15 January 2007 20:26 (nineteen years ago)

Tom Cruise what? Kevin Costner as Al, fer sure

chris besinger (chris besinger), Monday, 15 January 2007 20:33 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, stop believing everything you read in Skin Graft press releases.

Besides, Kevin Costner is too old now.

Mike Dixn (Mike Dixon), Monday, 15 January 2007 20:44 (nineteen years ago)

Bob Odenkirk already looks a lot like Al Johnson...

Rah Rah Replica (Roger Fidelity), Monday, 15 January 2007 20:45 (nineteen years ago)

current Costner would be perfect as Al, didn't you see "The Upside of Anger"?

chris besinger (chris besinger), Monday, 15 January 2007 20:48 (nineteen years ago)

Didn't see that one, but okay, fine, if you'd rather have Kevin Costner star in our big budget US Maple movie. Just don't come crying to me when we don't make our money back.
And Roger F is right, Bob Odenkirk looks more like Al than either of those guys. And David Cross looks just like Mark Fischer from Skin Graft.

Mike Dixn (Mike Dixon), Monday, 15 January 2007 20:56 (nineteen years ago)

don't worry about Costner not bringing 'em in cuz after the new script re-write Mark Shippy is actually going to be a super-attractive, emotionally fragile young woman & guitar genius. We're thinking Scarlett Johansson or that girl from "Laguna Beach". Trust me its going to play big w/ the tweens, this could be the next "High School Musical".

chris besinger (chris besinger), Monday, 15 January 2007 21:03 (nineteen years ago)

"Songs That Have Making Out", "Beth, It's You High School", "Make Your Bedroom Great", etc...I mean this practically writes itself!

chris besinger (chris besinger), Monday, 15 January 2007 21:07 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, thinking "outside the box". I like it. Howabout Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan as Pat Samson and Adam Vida.

Oh and look:

Mike Dixn (Mike Dixon), Monday, 15 January 2007 21:13 (nineteen years ago)

whoa, I haven't seen that one before, I want to see that movie!

what a great band

chris besinger (chris besinger), Monday, 15 January 2007 21:15 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, really, they only get better and better with hindsight. How many bands can you say that about? I've found that as a rule, only assholes and idiots dislike this band

Spine Swine (Roger Fidelity), Monday, 15 January 2007 21:31 (nineteen years ago)

four months pass...

A preview of the untitled US Maple documentary
Looks good.

Mike Dixn, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 04:42 (eighteen years ago)
