a guy from mpls named Dave Krejci has invented a new instrument that uses - quote - "piano strings, electromagnetic pick-ups, copper pipes, bones, iron and wire" in 2005 and has a CD out and plays somewhat frequently in the twin cities area.
anyway it's sort of droning and strange, otherworldly but beautiful.

the mp3 starts out kinda droney and noisey then sort of morphs into this bizarre quasi asian sounding chiming, it's great.
he's working on a new instrument called the "arachnophone", which is still under wraps.
