Because they don't invent new instruments everyday - THE CLEOPHONE

a guy from mpls named Dave Krejci has invented a new instrument that uses - quote - "piano strings, electromagnetic pick-ups, copper pipes, bones, iron and wire" in 2005 and has a CD out and plays somewhat frequently in the twin cities area.

anyway it's sort of droning and strange, otherworldly but beautiful.

thought some of you might be interested....there's links to free podcasts on his site:

here's the cover has a partial picture...

it's named after his daughter, cleo...there's a great little picture show on his main page w/commentary by his daughter from when he brought it to her elementary school...

anyway, it's pretty cool, worth checking out.

the mp3 starts out kinda droney and noisey then sort of morphs into this bizarre quasi asian sounding chiming, it's great.

he's working on a new instrument called the "arachnophone", which is still under wraps.

he talks about building it in the interview part of the mp3 i posted...it's also running through leslie cabinets from the hammond B3 that he owns, which he says is a big part of the sound...
