Kevin Shields. Full of Shit?

So, I hate to admit it, but I do still check in with Pitchfork every once in a while. Anyway, they posted a short blurb about an interview Mr. Shields had with Magnet in which he said there would absolutely be a new My Bloody Valentine record.

Doesn't he say that in every interview? Is this news? I mean, is it news that he STILL (15-16 years later) claims that there will be a new record?

I wish it were true, but I just can't believe it.

Any insider info? Thoughts? I'm sure there are a hundred threads dedicated to this, but the search function isn't working for me at the moment.

GIVE ME HOPE!!!

Doesn't he say that in every interview?

Well yeah. I've learned not to be fazed by it, and there's tons of stuff out there to love and get surprised by in the meantime.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 15 January 2007 22:04 (nineteen years ago)

I could see 15 years going by pretty quick, sometimes it's hard to get around to stuff, you know.

D3b G00dg3 seems to have started rehearsing in the studio I work in (dunno who with), shall I ask her if I see her? I mean, she might know, right?

I spoke to Kevin a while ago (2004?) when there was a brief flurry of rumours about how MBV were recording stuff in Berlin and there was going to be a box set of new stuff and old-new stuff and everything, and he said it was nonsense, and that he'd recently seen Deb who'd had a go at him for going into the studio without telling her.

Is Kevin actually doing anything these days? At least in the past he's had Primal Scream/The Beatings/Hurricane #1 remixes to use as an "I've been busy, alright!" excuse.

"D3b G00dg3 seems to have started rehearsing in the studio I work in (dunno who with), shall I ask her if I see her?"

---> Oh, dear God, yes. Please.

I thought she quit the band in '88 or something like that - you know, eighteen years ago.

everything (everything), Monday, 15 January 2007 22:34 (nineteen years ago)

No, she was with the band through the final live performances and a while beyond that, but eventually sidestepped over to Snowpony.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 15 January 2007 22:35 (nineteen years ago)

Wouldn't be MBV without her would it? I'll report back if I pluck up the courage.

Matt #2 (Matt #2), Monday, 15 January 2007 22:39 (nineteen years ago)

if I see colm around berkeley anytime again I'll ask him also.

Kevin Shields is starting to remind me of that monk-dude who was on Babylon 5, searching for the Holy Grail. He kept going further and further afield, and asking different races of aliens if they'd seen it, and kept telling everyone that he was going to find it, and it was his purpose in life. And his "Order" kept putting more and more money into the search. But you know...

Not THAT Kevin Shields.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 13:43 (nineteen years ago)

i liked that magnet interview. he really wanted to clear up that whole loveless-bankrupting-the-label myth.

Not THAT Kevin Shields.

you learn something new every day.

Kate Bush did it. Mission of Burma did it. The Soft Boys did it. The Pixies are allegedly doing it. Roxy Music is doing it. Peter Gabriel and GNR take their time. In the grand scheme of things, 15 years between records ain't that bad.

Now, if this were, say, Mark Hollis talking loud and saying nothing, I'd be more doubtful. It's not like Shields has been inactive, you know? He's even toured.

33 1/3's 'Loveless' by Mike McGonigal was finally releassed by Continuum. I just got it from Amazon, it looks like it's the stuff.

Last week he finished a performance in California by dedicating a lute only version of Message in a Bottle to his former bandmates Copeland and Andy Summers.
