wow, cool
lol @ how every post for about a year says "still editing! almost done!"

Yeah, I was laughing that the original deadline was 12/31/08 and now we're pulling for 12/31/09. Still, I'm sure doing a project like this requires tons of work and I'm glad they are making this.

Since I am a Silkworm novice, could anyone help out with the titles of the 2 songs in that trailer?
― billstevejim, Monday, 29 March 2010 15:40 (fifteen years ago)
Forget it.. the song titles are in the youtube comments.
― billstevejim, Monday, 29 March 2010 15:53 (fifteen years ago)
http://couldntyouwait.blogspot.com/2011/06/end.htmlThe movie is "done." The band has DVD's and some people very close to them have seen it and the reactions have all been positive. We are in the process of finishing up and are looking to screen it in September. The website will be overhauled in the coming months as well as this place. THANK YOU.

Will totally buy this. Got a buddy that lives in Andy's old house (he's a cool dude!). But you know what - why is my only avenue to buy via Facebook? I'm not on Facebook and refuse to be ... guess I'll have to wait for a retail copy?

they'll be selling it here, not on facebook: http://couldntyouwait.com/

enjoyed the shit out of it. the '93-era label-life stuff is such bygone-era shit it's pretty dizzying though - at one point somebody quotes sales figures/projections and says they expected they could sell 50/60k Silkworm records and it's like, hahaha holy fucking shit, what are you even talking about and then you remember oh yeah the nineties
― available for sporting events (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Tuesday, 19 February 2013 03:19 (twelve years ago)
Totally buying this, very excited, though I think I'll go for the $10 version - I never watch deleted scenes on DVDs, can't see watching them on my laptop, either. How much Phelps era stuff is there, aerosmith?
― If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Tuesday, 19 February 2013 03:56 (twelve years ago)
Hmm, after watching the trailer, I may go for the $20 version after all. I'm really curious about the 'song discussions' feature...
― If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Tuesday, 19 February 2013 04:03 (twelve years ago)
downloaded it last night but haven't had a chance to watch it yet, aside from having the live stuff on in the background while getting ready this morning.
― congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 19 February 2013 15:20 (twelve years ago)
not a whole lot. I know very little of that era tbh, I know people get really excited about it but I got on board much later and there's a great bit of discussion in the doc about how Phelps leaving allowed for more space that they really made great use of
― available for sporting events (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Tuesday, 19 February 2013 15:30 (twelve years ago)

― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 20 February 2013 04:56 (twelve years ago)
anyway this was good; wish there had been more discussion of the individual records (like all the t&g records get lumped together except blueblood which is mysteriously never mentioned), but i know i'm going to have a blast going through the extras.
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 20 February 2013 04:58 (twelve years ago)
Was going to get the 10 version, but leaning toward the 20 version now

i like documentaries about bands but i've never heard this band, would i like this?
― queeple qua queeple (Jordan), Wednesday, 20 February 2013 14:29 (twelve years ago)
^^ yeah and Blueblood is squarely in the "every one of these albums kills" run, too!
Footage of that performance at the T&G party was incredibly moving, Jesus Christ.
― available for sporting events (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Wednesday, 20 February 2013 14:33 (twelve years ago)
a lot of the movie is about what a difficult proposition silkworm were as a band and so sometimes it veers into sort of a "we are the chosen few who dig these dudes" kinda circle jerk. i disagree with that basic thesis--silkworm were pretty approachable, especially in the much-more-patient world of 90s indie rock--but the filmmakers make a good argument for silkworm as the most woefully underappreciated band of the era.
the interplay between surviving band members, family, friends, steve albini is all really enjoyable. i would say it's definitely worth 5 bucks for a non (or latent) silkworm fan. i'm perfectly happy to have paid $20 to see all the dumb silkworm minutiae.

absolutely were much more of a trad rock band than many of their contemporaries, but they seemed to fit in this weird middle ground that no one liked, too weird for uncle tupelo fans, too rock n' roll for dudes that loved polvo or june of 44 i guess
i love this band so much i can't wait to see this.
― in a chef-driven ambulance (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 20 February 2013 16:27 (twelve years ago)
i do think there is a thing with silkworm, as the doc says, where the songs seem at first to be so straightforward as to be forgettable, but then really really reward more listening.
i could've done with a few less of those fan interviews but then i was talking up skwm to a friend last weekend and probably sounded like those guys.

$20 i think is going to be worth it for song discussions alone--i just watched a little of it last night but it's the place to be if you want andy talking about reading w. somerset maughm and writing that song.
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 20 February 2013 18:35 (twelve years ago)

Is there a clip where he explains what the fuck the lyrics to "The Ram" are about? :)

opening couplet is so great and o_O
Slap that meat out of your mouthThe Ram wouldn't like it in his houseObject of worship, And of tortureHe is the system and the winning mystic
The Gates of WineI'll meet you to pay the fineWhere in Heaven, the Ram takes his shareKeep on through the forest if you want to see the glory
Once as a larkWe picked up the Ram on radarHe was laughing, As he was crashingOh so festive, his attitude was impressive
We ran from him thenHoping to get beyond his kenFrom Israel on to RomeThe Ram is beamed into every home
If you're feeling faintTake up the glass and drinkThe mystery has been replaced
And when our time was upWe forgot how to stopEven how to rejectLiving it up on the Ram's time

i enjoyed this a lot, love the special features i've seen (bought the $20 version and i'm making my way through it at a very leisurely pace). glossing over the joel-era stuff was a little disappointing (though unavoidable i'm sure), but they really did a great job capturing the obvious affection andy and tim have for each other and had for michael. really really good stuff.
― scream blahula scream (govern yourself accordingly), Thursday, 21 February 2013 01:49 (twelve years ago)
also albini's retelling of the cabbie blowjob story on the "michael dahlquist" featurette is probably worth the $20 alone
― scream blahula scream (govern yourself accordingly), Thursday, 21 February 2013 01:50 (twelve years ago)
"Footage of that performance at the T&G party was incredibly moving, Jesus Christ."
Yeah it really was moving, I guess because -imho- it wasn't cathartic, joyful or celebratory (like some documentary makers would probably like to spin an ending). It was actually kinda desolate and painful to watch, although I'm obviously basing my feelings going by the cut, the mood at the gig could have been much different/more supportive.
Tim especially with his back to the audience, using the act of directing the unrehearsed piano player as an excuse not to turn around.
― nan machine (MaresNest), Thursday, 21 February 2013 09:25 (twelve years ago)
i've only watched up until joel quits so far but i don't feel like joel's time in the band is glossed over - it's pretty obvious he didn't want to be interviewed so i don't know how much else they could have said about him
― congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 21 February 2013 15:20 (twelve years ago)
For those of you keeping tabs on this riveting saga, I actually did end up going for the $20 version after all, and, on the basis of the song discussions featurette alone, I'm really glad I did.

I was there, you can see me for like a split second in the movie...I've never really dwelled on it before but I will attest that description is pretty accurate. There was about 15 or 20 people from all over the US, hardcore fans, people I was close to, people I was friendly with, people I only knew from the internet, but people who all were huge SKWM fans all huddled up front, all silent for about five minutes before those guys got onstage. It was overcast or raining and I remember the performance being just hard to watch, like I couldn't wait for it to be over.
When it was finally done, I completely burst into horrible sobbing, as did one of best friends, as did one of our other friends. And of course, all of us being dudes we each speed walked in three different directions and didn't talk about it for like weeks. My wife said it was one of the hardest things to watch.
