Is there anybody out there with better insight into the mind of the modern woman? Doubtful.

This is a place for Parker Juniorheads to expound on their favorite subject. Topic A: let us piece together the ultimate 80 minute Parker Jr./Raydio compilation. It won't be complete without the following:

A Woman Needs Love (Just Like You Do)
I Don't Think That Man Should Sleep Alone
Ghostbusters

Hahahahahahahah

The master of the eight-song album.

The four Raydio/Ray Parker Jr & Raydio albums are too good to be squeezed onto one disc.

Ray Parker Jr. is plenty inconsistent...he initially casts Jack as a sympathetic figure, having to look elsewhere for love because Jill spurns him at home...then (in "Woman Needs Love") he implies that Jack was ignoring Jill, and so she had to take another lover...which is it?

hank (hank s), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 20:25 (nineteen years ago)

Does he contradict himself? Very well, Ray Parker Jr. contradicts himself. Ray Parker Jr. is large; Ray Parker Jr. contains multitudes.

UNGH

"The Other Women" should have been number one on every chart in 1982.

Some real talk from his latest album:

Met her at the car wash, she was half of my age or more
With her was a young child, from a lover that she had before
I'm not quite sure how it came about, but we started talking 'bout the rent
All she needed was a little love, and said my money would be well spent

People say that sex is just sex, and a kiss is just a kiss
I don't believe it, 'cause I ain't never had it done like this
All my friends are laughing, saying it's a middle aged crisis
They don't understand, I don't give a damn
'Cause I ain't never had it done like this

Andy_K (Andy_K), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 20:34 (nineteen years ago)

oh man i bet that track 'sunset ray' is a burner!

Andy_K (Andy_K), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 20:51 (nineteen years ago)

I understand now...Ray Parker Jr. *is* Jack...in retrospect, it's so obvious...

plus, one in a series of super-parkers akin to the soul music "super taylors" (ted, johnnie, johnny). (charlie, junior, ray jr.) in the tradition and paying young rental. "let's get off."

"I Still Can't Get Over Losing You" is incredibly sweet.

Confounded (Confounded), Thursday, 18 January 2007 04:15 (nineteen years ago)

Parker fell off in the mid 80s to be sure, but how can you deny:

You Can't Change That (stalking masquerading as midtempo soul groove)
For Those Who Like To Groove
Two Places At The Same Time
Hot Stuff
She Needs To Get Some (for comic value)
Get Down

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 19 January 2007 04:26 (nineteen years ago)

Well, "Ghostbusters" and "Jack & Jill" were both great, but I cannot quite see what he's up to in 2007.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 19 January 2007 04:27 (nineteen years ago)

look it up, he had a record (that no one heard) last year!

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 19 January 2007 04:30 (nineteen years ago)

plus, I dunno, RP Jr. was yachtrokkin', too, was he not? so right there he's still doin' it.

edd s hurt (ddduncan), Friday, 19 January 2007 14:39 (nineteen years ago)

I heard Parker's last album. It's kinda smooth-jazzy with none of the funk or really any pop that he's known for. You're not missing anything. -- Graff
