I'm unsure if I ever managed to start a S/D thread.

This is because at the moment, "Wino Junko" by "not" Paul McCarney's Wings is buzzing my 'ed, even though I havent actually heard it for 30 years!

"tree" BB's..

Does "Sail on, Sailor" not count on that score? (i.e. what is that track?)

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 18 January 2007 11:24 (nineteen years ago)

Somehow it seems out of place to be mentioning the Beach Boys on this thread. I mean, they were all singers, pretty much everyone took a turn singing lead at some point.

i'll mitya halfway (mitya), Thursday, 18 January 2007 11:26 (nineteen years ago)

"Sail on Sailor" was Rikki Fatarr, although he was actually a member of the band then.

"A tree" I don't know.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 18 January 2007 11:27 (nineteen years ago)

Lead vocal was by Jack Rieley.

I'd make the same argument with the Commodores'"Brick House" that somebody made about the Beach Boys...weren't there other equal-time lead singers in the Commodores besides Lionel Richie?

Some more examples of leads by group members who seldom got a solo vocal:
- "Let Me Hear It From You"-Sly & the Family Stone (Larry Graham)
- "I Truly Truly Believe"-Temptations (Melvin Franklin)
- "Like You Used To," "Shotgun"-Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs (somebody else besides Sam!)

Rev. Hoodoo (Rev. Hoodoo), Thursday, 18 January 2007 13:08 (nineteen years ago)

Esther Ofarim and it's great *smacks head* learn respect for your elders ;-)

On the same subject, "Scope J" and "Lullaby" by Scott Walker but sung by Ute Lemper and they are two of the greatest songs EVER

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 18 January 2007 16:29 (nineteen years ago)

bendy (bendy), Thursday, 18 January 2007 17:01 (nineteen years ago)

I figured I'd get taken to task over Esther Ofarim...but why didn't Walker sing that tune?...playing hooky that day?...(I would argue that The Drift would be improved with a little more Esther, a little less Scott, leastways on vocals...but then I'd risk another head-smacking, so I won't)...
