song ID: '80s industrial/EBM

So I heard this really awesome '80s industrial track at the Masquerade last night, and I have no clue who it could be by. It sounded like the lyrics were "God! bless the child!" though I'm pretty sure those aren't the actual words. Other reasons why I think it has something to do ith religion: There was a section with a sample of a preacher speaking, I think. And an fat goth dude who apparently knew all the words was dancing around striking crucifixion poses. It's kind of the same tempo as "Headhunter" by Front 242.

(nb: I know everything I just said describes 99% of EBM)

i think it's by that German band. or something on Wax Trax.

Ah right, that was "Tormented Thursday" with DJ Obsidian, I trust.

(I tease because I love.)

that description really narrows it down!

hmmm, i'll venture a guess and say perhaps "Welcome to Paradise" by Front 242 (since you mentioned it being in the same tempo as "Headhunter" and having a preacher sample). i'm probably wrong though.

that just made me spray my cup of tea everywhere for some reason.

"welcome to paradise" goes 'hey poor, you dont have to be poor any more. jesus is here', 'in the name of jesus...hallelujah' etc etc and then 'no,no, no, no....no sex until marriage' so it probably isn't that.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Friday, 19 January 2007 20:44 (nineteen years ago)

'god bless america' by bigod 20?

actually those are exactly the samples! Thanks! But I'm still not sure if this was part of the track that I want or just something he was playing to segue into "Headhunter" (which he played immediately afterwards) :/

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Friday, 19 January 2007 22:18 (nineteen years ago)

haha Ned it'd be awesome if it were actually called "Tormented Thursday" b/c most of the time they play "Do You Wanna Ride (My Mercedes)" and Company B (which obv. I have ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM WITH)

This makes me beam. I remember those days!

Captivate! *strike a pose* Captivate! *strike a pose*

Man, sometimes I miss goth clubbing.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 19 January 2007 22:59 (nineteen years ago)

I went to a goth club once. Half the tunes the DJ played sounded like trance with a bit of "gothic" taste, I didn't know that was what goths like.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Saturday, 20 January 2007 11:51 (nineteen years ago)

that pretty much *is" goth these days

feed latebloomer (latebloomer), Saturday, 20 January 2007 11:58 (nineteen years ago)

wtf i can't even properly put asterisk around two letters my brane is goooone

feed latebloomer (latebloomer), Saturday, 20 January 2007 11:59 (nineteen years ago)

Latebloomer otm, goth clubs've been like that for years - its all Apoptygma Bezerk and VNV Nation and nu-Skinny Puppy these days.

Some friends of mine, in annoyance (and being older like I am) started a club called Kiss Kiss Bang Bang specifically to offset that, by focussing on old school classic goth/swamprock/psychobilly/gloomypropergoth stuff. It did pretty well for quite some time but has closed down now.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 21 January 2007 00:30 (nineteen years ago)

I mean FFS I've seen supposed goths at clubs in blue shiny pvc with glowsticks. Th'hell.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 21 January 2007 00:31 (nineteen years ago)

PS I'm not a goth I swear.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 21 January 2007 00:31 (nineteen years ago)

'80s nights at clubs > classic goth nights because you get to have Cult Jam to mix with your Cult!

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Sunday, 21 January 2007 03:14 (nineteen years ago)

BTW it's not "Welcome to Paradise."

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Sunday, 21 January 2007 04:02 (nineteen years ago)

hmmm...so it wasn't Green Day after all

j/k

feed latebloomer (latebloomer), Sunday, 21 January 2007 04:22 (nineteen years ago)

Hm. Was the song "Jesus Loves Amerika" by the Shamen or something maybe? I'm totally guessing now.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 21 January 2007 04:25 (nineteen years ago)

you are correct...Jesus Loves Amerika (but I love neither)...

hank (hank s), Sunday, 21 January 2007 14:59 (nineteen years ago)

I wouldn't call that song industrial by any stretch but I can see it being played at a goth night. (was that the one Curtis?)

GUYS

the song is "Join in the Chant" by Nitzer Ebb. I have no idea where the fuck I was getting those lyrics upthread (aside from loud echoey club speakers).

Curt1s Stephens, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 04:47 (eighteen years ago)

i played "join in the chant" in my set saturday night! it was not a hit, unfortunately.

andrew m., Tuesday, 3 April 2007 14:11 (eighteen years ago)

still better than 95% of all electroclash

blueski, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 14:14 (eighteen years ago)

So I wonder if it was a case of misheard lyrics when I heard this 80s industrial/EBM song that I was convinced was all about fishing...

First you bait the hook
Then you draw the net
THEN YOU CAST THE LINE!

I might be making up the bait the hook and draw the net bits. Definitely some line casting going on though.

ledge, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 14:27 (eighteen years ago)

one you lock the target
two you bait the line
three you slowly spread the net
and four you catch the man

?

Curt1s Stephens, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 14:27 (eighteen years ago)

sometimes I wonder if these are the only two EBM songs ever

Curt1s Stephens, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 14:30 (eighteen years ago)
