Has anyone else heard this album? It has reworked versions of Yoko Ono songs done by the likes of the polyphonic spree, cat power, le tigre, antony (who is on literally every other record now), the apples in stereo, peaches and more....

I'm enjoying it quite a lot.

Wicked! Did Cibo Matto make another Yoko-covering appearance or has that affair moved on?

his sister pam (hissisterpam), Monday, 22 January 2007 17:45 (eighteen years ago)

Sadly no Cibo, as they've been broken up for ages now.

They could of thrown in Yoko & Yo la tengo's track from that Hedwig tribute album too...

I think my favorite is the polyphonic spree take on "You And I"

el juan (el juan), Monday, 22 January 2007 18:58 (eighteen years ago)

which is the PEACHES track? what's it like?

pisces (piscesx), Monday, 22 January 2007 18:59 (eighteen years ago)

I heard this once and liked some of it - the SPz was pretty good

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 22 January 2007 19:29 (eighteen years ago)

Peaches does "Kiss Kiss Kiss" - I think this is about 3/4 really good.

Mark (MarkR), Monday, 22 January 2007 19:31 (eighteen years ago)

that's a good ratio for a comp

Dr. Alicia D. Titsovich (sexyDancer), Monday, 22 January 2007 19:34 (eighteen years ago)

That's a ratio for the whole thing, or the track is 3/4 good?

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 22 January 2007 19:42 (eighteen years ago)

Sorry - meant the whole compilation, lots of good stuff.

Mark (MarkR), Monday, 22 January 2007 19:44 (eighteen years ago)

the peaches track is lazy lazy lazy. dullsville. sounds like it was programmed on a groovebox in 2 minutes.

Fjord Spellman (fjord), Monday, 22 January 2007 20:18 (eighteen years ago)

oh and the peaches track is 'kiss kiss kiss'

Fjord Spellman (fjord), Monday, 22 January 2007 20:18 (eighteen years ago)

xpost: unlike the rest of her stuff???

Dr. Alicia D. Titsovich (sexyDancer), Monday, 22 January 2007 20:19 (eighteen years ago)

yeah no surprises there

I think the Apples song is especially good (along with the Spiritualized one) and that the Cat Power one is almost really good. Towards the end of the track, Yoko is talking when I'd rather, at that moment, be listening to Chan Marshall singning.

I wish "Goodbye Sadness" had been on here; I'd love to here a saxless version of that one.

the Cat Power one is almost really good. Towards the end of the track, Yoko is talking when I'd rather, at that moment, be listening to Chan Marshall singning.

Perhaps, but Marshall did improve the song by putting the spoken bits (which I like actually) all together at the end, instead of having them end every verse as with the original.

This isn't the first Yoko tribute album. The other one came out in 1984 and maybe wasn't even issued on CD.

"Goodbye Sadness" is on that one, done by Roberta Flack. I haven't listened to the album in years, so don't remember if that version has the sax, but I do remember it as being one of the standout tracks.

chëshy (chëshy f cat), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 05:52 (eighteen years ago)

Right -- but this one uses Yoko's vocals so it's a little different.

Mark (MarkR), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 14:30 (eighteen years ago)

it's a remix record, not a tribute record.

it's pretty good -- at least beck's not on it.

So, how's the Le Tigre song???

Colin_C. (Colin Cassidy), Thursday, 25 January 2007 21:38 (eighteen years ago)

two weeks pass...
This is actually surprisingly good! I really like the Kiss Kiss Peaches collab.

is anyone anticipating the new Baaderonixx? (baaderonixx), Friday, 9 February 2007 11:10 (eighteen years ago)

the dj spooky cut owns this album, no surprises there

Wrinklecause for Applause! (Wrinklepaws), Friday, 9 February 2007 15:09 (eighteen years ago)

The 'Deat of Samantha' reworking is also pretty cool.

Oddly enough, I like the Flaming Lips/Cambridge 1969, mostly because of the use of the original material. Yoko is so awesome on that.
