Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 25 January 2007 14:42 (eighteen years ago)

is that a vocoder in that Cher song?...or is it some kind of pitch modulator?...or is there even a diff?

hank (hank s), Thursday, 25 January 2007 14:56 (eighteen years ago)

x-post I thought "Believe' was just Autotune gone mental?

lexurian (lexurian), Thursday, 25 January 2007 14:57 (eighteen years ago)

the only crap vocoder I've ever heard is on Influx's "No 1 Bass Rocker" - a really shoddy drum'n'bass track with lazy lazy vocoder "action".

wogan lenin (dog latin), Thursday, 25 January 2007 14:58 (eighteen years ago)

I thought "Believe' was just Autotune gone mental?

So did I until I was disabused of that notion:

Giorgio Moroder - Baby Blue

mucho (mucho), Thursday, 25 January 2007 16:40 (eighteen years ago)

I think it's important that people are using a real Vocoder™, not just some plug-in or bit of computer quackery.

I mean I'm not all worked up about it and I don't know how the records I mentioned up top were actually made.

BTW, I was purposely citing a batch of current records which seem to indicate some sort of renaissance of vocoder usage, having been already been beaten to the punch on "More Bounce to The Ounce", my personal favorite. I was wondering if anyone had noticed this phenomenon and what their thoughts are about it (if any).

I don't get why anyone would go out of their way to hate on MSTRKRFT, they aren't incredible or anything but a lot of people seem to like them. I think they have made a listenable electronic record, which from me is pretty high praise. Also, I am told that Wolfgang is not a band from Canada but rather is a robot from Brooklyn. Whatev., their (its?) version of Angel Eyes is worth finding on the Hype Machine (esp. if you ever had any love for the orig.).

Saxby D. Elder (Saxby D. Elder), Thursday, 25 January 2007 17:14 (eighteen years ago)

Hey I kinda liked this:

MR HOPKINSON'S COMPUTER is a "Fools Gold" cover w/ vocoder-ey vocal

(not a candidate for best ever, but still fun)
