You know, although there's a lot of stuff on TP-2.com (strong candidate for "most poorly thought-through album title of all time") that I really love, especially "I Wish (To the Homies That We Lost Remix)" which is just fucking phenomenal, and "Ignition"'s great and "You Saved Me" is just remarkable, I still gotta give the nod to a "The World's Greatest," which melodically is so concise and effective and lyrically is so economical and so squarely hits the target it's aiming for that it gets me every time. The payoff of the last line of the first verse is such a formal triumph, it takes my breath away - structurally you've got all these clauses that open with "I am" and specify something real & physical and then modify prepositionally with "down in" or variants, and then in line 4 he says "I AM A VISION AND I CAN SEE CLEARLY" and it's like you've been looking at a near shot of a small clearing and then the lens goes wide in the space of one line and the whole picture comes into focus, the vastness of it, and then the two-line bridge - "if anybody asks you who I am/stand up straight, look 'em in the face and say" frames the chorus so beautifully: it's not "I am the greatest," right, it's "proclaim your own greatness, whoever you are." I think Kelly's real passion for songs like this one, for universality in his subject, is a thing of wonder and that when he nails it it's just perfect.

I have not personally met anybody who shares my love of this song.

I can't pick just one, but I want to throw "Heaven, I Need A Hug" (one of my favorite self-pity songs ever) and "Thoia Thoing" in the mix here. And "Et Cetera"!
