In the NME, there's a little section where artists are
asked to name their ultimate constipation/compilation - tracks
which were important to them.. here is mine
1. Arcwelder - Favor
This is really one of my favourite tracks ever.. it's a pretty
short and catchy piece of guitar rock.
2. Polvo - Can I Ride
Alternative.. I like the Today's Active Lifestyles album better
as a whole though, all the tracks are pretty experimental, but the
sound is good also.
3. MBV - Slow
It's a really raw track on the You Made Me Realise EP.
The guitars have a great deep sound, and the lyrics are pretty
suggestive also.
4. Sebadoh - It's So Hard To Fall In Love
Reminds me of being a teenager, (i would also like to include
Riding With My Father by Holy Cow... has anybody ever heard
this?)
5. Aphex Twin - Heliosphan
Lush, ambient dance track... I also like Papua New Guinea
but this hits the spot more for me.. reminds of those
late night parties at college.
6. Funki Porcini - Going Down
Possibly the most chilled out track ever, with the drums fading
in and out and a descending baseline.
7. Leila - Don't Fall Asleep
This is a wierd track, in the experimental leftfield vein.
I like what she did to the singer's voice.
8. Entombed - Crawl
That would be the 12inch version of the song with a
temporary singer, before they got the guy for Clandestine on
which this track also appears. It's really rough unpolished
Death Metal.
9. Tindersticks - Marbles
Some tracks are all about atmosphere.. this reminds me
of a smokey old men's pub.. which is not necessarily a bad thing.
10. Drop Nineteens - Winona
I am a bit of sucker for the old American indie scene of the
early 90's. This was one of the very few decent tracks DN
did.
11. Mudhoney - If I Think
I liked mudhoney a lot, but for me this track captured what
was best about their music.
12. DJ Mink - Hey, Hey! Can U Relate?
I have this on it's own, but I like it in the context of the
first Blech compilation on Warp records.
13. Nick Drake - Day is Done
This is a really great song, but also pretty depressing.
It is also fairly short.
14. Jill Scott - Slowly Surely
Reminds me of the missus.. the only record i've got that
she likes.
15. Influx - Love Song
16. Redeye - Acidetch
These are both old and dark techno tracks, which also
remind me a lot of college. I still listen to both of these
tracks pretty regularly.
