18th Dye return from the dead!?

I never quite figured out why they were so unsuccesful in the US, but anyway, it appears that they're back in the studio. Officially in my top-10 most anticipated recordings, I think. http://18thdye.com/

Anyone (I guess this would be for the Germans in the room) seen any of their recent shows, which apparently feature new material? I'm still convinced that (poorly named) "Coffee Cup Revisited" is one of the great lost b-side classics of the indie 90's.

...not to mention their cover of "It Feels Like I'm In Love."

i don't know why i like it so much. nice shade of green?

I agree...it's really lovely looking. I've held onto the vinyl for exactly that reason.

i recall th great 18th dye/bunnybrains/babe th blue ox show in danbury where i drunkenly told cosloy i had learned to pee in my own mouth if that was of any interest to him.

dan bunnybrain (dan bunnybrain), Saturday, 27 January 2007 03:21 (nineteen years ago)

jeezus, babe the blue ox. did they play every week at tk's or what?

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 27 January 2007 03:31 (nineteen years ago)

i needed one more gimmick to appeal to th matador roster.and as i showered before th show i realized how funny an act would be if th front man peed upwards and caught some in his mouth and spit it at th audience..ahh th 90s

I shall be the keeper of the flame. Just noticed a new song (?) on their Myspace, from a live 2006 show: Song For Helen. Moderately encouraging, though production was always pretty critical for these guys....

I kind of like my own private 18th Dye thread. Am busy rediscovering Done, which never got as much attention as it should have. Basically does everything that latter-day Sonic Youth tried to do, but gets it right. I had actually mis-remembered "Girls Boots" as being by Sonic Youth and was shocked to find that it wasn't.

How I love tending to this thread. Video of recent 18th dye up on youtube. Just a fragment of an old instrumental, but it looks like they still gots it. Like the youtube commenter (who is not me) I am just way excited to hear the eventual album.

"The legendary Danish - German rock group 18th Dye release their album Amorine Queen on March 31st after almost ten years apart.
Amorine Queen will be released in Europe and Scandinavia in march and in the US in May."

Also: "On Sunday at 10.30 pm 18th Dye will present their new album Amorine Queen in the program Public Sunday on P3."

Very nice jellyfish cover art, from the looks of things! I'd be so happy if this one turns out to be good. Double happy if they come to the US to play, though that seems unlikely.

Yay! 1st single from the new one up on myspace. Surprisingly lush (a relative term w/this band). "Soft the Hard Way." Will have to wait for better sound quality to know for sure, but I like so far.

This is great news -- thanks! I still pull out the old records and fondly remember seeing them ages ago in DC.

twelve years pass...

What is the deal with this band not being a cult classic by now?
