I have a hankering for Maximillian Hecker, Sebastian Tellier, the odd bit of Air and other tongue-in-cheek Euroschmaltz. What else might fit into this category? I'm a bit lost to come p with many other examples although I know there are others.
My searches:
Maximillian Hecker - Kate Moss
Sebastian Tellier - Wonder Africa
Air - Cherry Blossom Girl

Koop - Waltz For Koop
Infantjoy & Populous - Ghosts

Oh dear Dom, I didn't know we were only allowed to talk about things we already know about on this board, as opposed to, y'know discovering new music and being interested in new styles and genres and asking questions and maybe challenging views and giving our own opinions.

To take the bait Maximillian Hecker is romantic and it is pop so it's Romantic Pop in my book. If you read the actual question it explains things in a bit more depth.
you're obsessed with fitting things into categories, doglatin. but then i was too.

Errr... What about all the people going "Oooh, Dog Latin you are so dumb, you can't tell the difference between Electrohouse and Minimal House, FNARR FNARRR FNARRR!" or "How dare you say XTC are included in the genre 80s synth pop when it is clear to anyone that they didn't use synths? How can you say that they sound like Tears For Fears and Talk Talk when those bands have nothing to do with each other?*".
WHEN DID ILX BECOME SUCH A FUCKING NERD-FEST? GET ONE LIFE AND STOP PICKING APART EVERY SINGLE WORD I SAY AND GET BACK TO ENJOYING MUSIC!
I say this as someone who has been a regular here since 1999. ILX was never like this before. We used to help each other out with music queries, not fight endlessly over whether a thread is titled correctly or if a certain choice of wording was more or less appropriate to another. We didn't used to fob off noobs with sarcasm and oh-so-funny joke responses. We also didn't used to slag each other off day-upon-day and thread-to-thread for the odd bit of misguidedness in music.
The reason I come here is to learn more about music and to discuss different opinions.
I don't come here to act like a wanker and unnecessarily quote people unnecessarily quote people unnecessarily quote people unnecessarily quote people unnecessarily quote people unnecessarily quote people unnecessarily quote people unnecessarily quote people unnecessarily quote people without actually giving a proper response (the most cowardly habit that's been developing of late on this board, along with simply writing "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" underneath what someone has written).
People like Dom, Ethan and Mr. Que go round taking the piss out of other people and complaining about things like "list threads"** without actually writing anything worthwhile themselves. I may not always be right about every single fact but at least I try and contribute worthwhile posts which is more than can be said than for people like them. They feel that because they've been here for a certain amount of time they can swan about with this holier than thou attitude, taking the piss out of peoples posts while contributing nothing to encourage music discussion.
People like this are smothering ILX and frightening off other posters, some who only turned up for a short while (Charlie Howard) and others who have been here for ages (haven't seen G-Kit for a while have we?).
I'm probably opening myself wide to more harassment from these cunts but frankly I'm beyond caring and I know there are other people on this board who are also fed up to the back teeth with this bullshit. There's only one word for it and it's trolling and if most of these people hadn't once been decent contributors to this board they'd have been banned fucking ages ago in the same way Callum and that lot were.
* As was pointed out on the thread in question, XTC and Tears For Fears were often compared to each other in the late 80s, synth pop or no.
**A list thread is only a list thread if you make it a list thread. If you don't like writing lists, how about contributing something useful and objective to one of these instead of moaning about them? My thread about definitive genres was called a "list thread" but that wasn't the intention at all. Besides, in many cases a list thread can be informative to people who want to know more about a particular kind of music or artist.
