There is no obligation to write about music, even if you can't put two good words together and have nothing to say. Don't base your career on these things -- whatever you've heard, that's not all there is to it. Greatest single ever, it drones on for eleven minutes of drudgery says nothing. Its the most mind numbing experience available. Thats what makes it so damn genius says nothing. Hauntingly beautiful it it makes about as much sense as the Presidents Iraqi peace plan. But thats exactly why we love it says nothing. This stands out as one of the strongest songs there says nothing. It reminds me of the 80s punk movement. Though it really sounds nothing like punk says nothing. Itunes had a great deal on their ep and I took a bite. I realized it was great says nothing. I also listened and learned to love Joanna. I am going to have to convince everyone to learn to love her. Frankly shes awesome says nothing. No doubt one of the top voice talents of today says nothing. The mans a genius. Sorry and this song lead by Sufjan on piano and the Illinoisemakers on chorus are great says nothing (except that it suggests, like everything on that page, that you can't punctuate, you can't write anything that anyone would want to read, you haven't read anything that anyone else has written and you couldn't really give a shit about music at all, or anything for that matter, because of all the possible experiences in human life, from the shit and the scandal, the usual tedium to the maddening highs, the least appetising vocation I can currently conceive of would be to type up those shitty words on your shitty blog. I understand that typing this crap makes me complicit, but that's as nothing compared to what you've done. Give up and go home.) I think that's what you're doing wrong.

Expecting your normal everyday Rap dribble I checked the actual CD out and was left asking myself, “Wait Justin Timberlake is actually good?”

I think pitchfork got sand in its vagina when my album reviews are better ;).

You're one person that no one's heard of in an overly crowded pool full of well-established people who already have blogs that nobody actually reads.

Whiney G. Weingarten (whineyg), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 06:31 (eighteen years ago)

Like honestly, who doesn't want to be "renown" in a small circle for posting opinions for free? Thing is, EVERYONE does that now, so the competition is impenetrable.

The real question is what the fuck are some of these jokers with "name" blogs doing RIGHT?

Write for your local newspaper or something. Cash a paycheck and don't worry what a bunch of people on the internet think!

Whiney G. Weingarten (whineyg), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 06:39 (eighteen years ago)

whiney OTM.

vahid (vahid), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 06:41 (eighteen years ago)

I really just want to make friends who enjoy the kind of music I do....

How are a collection of B-Sides and a Christmas album the top albums of the year?

In Beth DittoPerpetua's defence, My Old Kentucky Blog is somehow worse.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 15:52 (eighteen years ago)

Dude, if you seriously want to make inroads in the wide wonderful world of Music Blogging (as perpetrated by any number of promo-hustling asshats & friends of friends of friends of bar owners), then just troll their comment areas in a ZOMG until someone invites you to some DJ night where you can cozy up to X & Y and you get your picture somewhere on MelodyNelson.com and you're close enough to S. Lewtinn that you could loogie in her hair or some shit. Then you can say YOU WERE THERE when Karen O hopped on stage w/ n0 Things & did a really PWNSUM cover of "Some Velvet Morning," & you can flickr the pics, & put it on your resume next to your blog URL.

Now shaddap - Grampa needs his nap.

I googled one of my exes recently to see what she was up to these days. Answer: she's a regular commenter on Stereogum.

This is the same ex who asked me why I wasn't writing for Pitchfork.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 16:16 (eighteen years ago)

i wrote a one-act play two years ago and showed it to one of my professors. he said something like, "well.. i'm glad that you're motivated, but remember: it's okay to just be a fan."

sound advice

poortheatre (poortheatre), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 22:00 (eighteen years ago)

This guy talks about Pitchfork like Saddam Hussein talked about "Persians" and like how conspiracy theorists talk about Jews.

Hence this is clearly David Bazan of Pedro the Lion, and I claim my five dollars.

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 22:17 (eighteen years ago)

(Background Bazan lyric -- )

You're so creative with your reviews
Of what other people do
How satisfying that must be for you
Am I a Christian? Are you a Jew?
Did you kill my Lord? Must I forgive you?

(I.e. OMG BATSHIT BLOOD LIBEL ON, I DUNNO, PROBABLY LUTHERANS)

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 22:20 (eighteen years ago)

I don't wanna join the bullying here, but a lot of that reads like an Outside Scoop column by Jackie Harvey.

And anyway, writing about music is like dancing about blah blah blah. Music journalism in general is tedious to write (unless you're very good) and tedious to read (unless you're very good). I guess my question, then, is "Why?"

Mahavishnu Rules (Roger Fidelity), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 22:25 (eighteen years ago)

Write for your local newspaper or something. Cash a paycheck and don't worry what a bunch of people on the internet think!

Oh how I wish someone had given me that advice three years ago.

Srsly, totally otm.
