weird catchall thread - just looking for a straw poll of current electronic acts that people are checking / buying / downloading w/o even listening first

i'll go first ... mind you it's terribly boring and predictable

switch + jesse rose
mathew jonson
villalobos + luciano
rong music
anything on tempa / coki, mala + loefah

Narcotic Syntax - had to be mentioned separately since their release on WIR was so fantastic

Jedmond (Jedmond), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 08:35 (eighteen years ago)

second Republic of Desire, gotta be huge this year

the Issakidis "Explicite" (soon to be released but already played by the likes of Smagghe for like one year) track is so incredible, sexy druggy deranged minimal acid house (deranged even for acid, i mean)

and how come no one on ILM talked about his "In Love" tune from early 2005? is hyper sensual screwed and chopped filter house forbidden here? ; )

Etienne Menu (Etienne), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 09:32 (eighteen years ago)

jimn (jimnaseum), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 15:39 (eighteen years ago)

whenever anyone says 'anything on...' it always seems more likely that they can't discern properly rather than the idea that all tracks on that label are all genuinely great (if not all equally great).

vita susicivus (blueski), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 15:40 (eighteen years ago)

it does? even busy labels only release every 2-3 weeks...it's not that difficult to keep tabs on all their releases, plus some of the best labels are easier to name in a thread like this than individual producers.

anyway for me the producers who I always check and almost always buy are:

perennially, or at least not an 07 thing:
konrad black
ripperton
donato dozzy
samim
jay haze

and for right now and the 07:
jamie jones
shonky
saint ibot
plasmik
solomun
marc schnider
daniel stefanik
matthias meyer

labelwise I'm tipping the following to get a lot bigger
aus music
tfe
diynamic
neopren

and a good year for these stalwarts:
mobilee
liebe detail (prob best label of 07)
freak n chic (so maybe they're just lucky the music has revolved back to their sound, but still)
connaisseur (consistently excellent, and so many new producers too which is impressive)

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 16:27 (eighteen years ago)

'can do no wrong'? at all? ok thats a short list

Richard Bartz
Thomas Schumacher

PRKLTR (flezaffe), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 16:53 (eighteen years ago)

it's not that difficult to keep tabs on all their releases

It is when you're listening to about eight million other things as well.

the table is the table (treesessplode), Thursday, 1 February 2007 16:16 (eighteen years ago)

does anyone know anything about label called 60 Secs.? the 'girls on drums' single by agnes was pretty sweet for a bit last year, but i hear nothing about them since.

the table is the table (treesessplode), Thursday, 1 February 2007 16:28 (eighteen years ago)

There's more on the way, done a floor below mine by lesser known local producers.

blunt (blunt), Friday, 2 February 2007 00:38 (eighteen years ago)

Audio Werner is certainly one to come to mind, especially after first hearing flatfunk earlier today and pretty much saying to myself "Audio Werner has never done me wrong"

and usually it's common with Ricardo, Luciano, Alex Under and the like.

Thomas Mehlt (Tokyo Ghost Stories), Friday, 2 February 2007 07:19 (eighteen years ago)

Ed Banger can do no right. Except for the Mehdi record.

Sandwell District

I like Luke Vibert lots but 'Spac Hand Luke' was not, erm, "blinding".

naw, 'spac hand' was killer -- particularly the tunes that had a retro-hardcore vibe about them. i'd love to hear more of that kind of thing from him.

go see him dj/live for a thorough and well-planned trip though the last 20 years of dance music...

mikebee (heywood), Sunday, 4 February 2007 01:12 (eighteen years ago)

i thought spac hand luke was supposed to be more of a dubstep thing.

vahid (vahid), Sunday, 4 February 2007 01:17 (eighteen years ago)

Eskimo & Clone really rocking it for me these days.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Sunday, 4 February 2007 01:25 (eighteen years ago)

Pantha Du Prince

jed_ (jed), Sunday, 4 February 2007 01:27 (eighteen years ago)

does MISC make the list this year?

vahid (vahid), Sunday, 4 February 2007 03:23 (eighteen years ago)

hmm i haven't been keeping up with all of MISC's releases, so i dunno.

'spac hand luke' was a mash of jungle, a bit of dubstep, break-y things and those excellent hardcoreisms i spoke of, and is awesome.

mikebee (heywood), Sunday, 4 February 2007 03:35 (eighteen years ago)

i dont like Misc as much as i used to, at least not for home listening purposes. live they still wipe the floor with most other techno liveacts, though.

have you heard heidi's monza mix tim? one of my favourites from last year.

antidote against poisoning (lex pretend), Saturday, 10 February 2007 22:28 (eighteen years ago)

Pantha Du Prince album is amazing actually....

I really need to make more effort with Henrik Schwarz...

I'm not sure about DJs for this....I think M.A.N.D.Y. is still the one whose sets I identify with the most.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 10 February 2007 22:54 (eighteen years ago)

The new Mobilee is amazing btw....serious Ame/Innervisions/Basic Channel vibe...
