El Coco - Dancing in Paradise

Two years ago I found a 12" release from El Coco, on AVI, "Let's Get it Together." Wonderful, smooth porno-disco. Then I found out about a year ago that they had a full length, also on AVI. (Dancing in Paradise)

Any other releases by them or and other AVI Records releases I should check out? It's a fair label ... 3 out of 5 records I have found were great. (2 El Coco, and 1 by Le Spank - "Pamplemousse" ... a 12")

The big hit Cocomotion is awesome...find the original (should run you 2 bucks) and avoid the Ballroom bootleg edit. There's something wrong about it.

But El Coco is actually Rinder and Lewis, also much loved for the Seven Deadly Sins record (part of which is on the common uncredited bootleg with Candido's Thousand Finger Man on the flip), and their version of the Hand Jive is awesome, don't know what that's on though.

I love Rinder & Lewis. They're absolutely fun, but I have to admit ... I'm curious to hear their earlier projects as studio musicians, etc.

"Lust" is of course the biggest song that they actually receive credit for, and I love love love it.

cocomotion is definitely awesome like dan sez. i put anger from the 7 deadly sins album on one of my ilm mixes. if you want to hear that. you can download it from my mix thread. i wouldn't think the el coco album would be that hard to track down. not that i've tried.

Cocomotion is actually a big pain in the ass to find around here, SF. As far as Rinder & Lewis records, they're a bit easier. Still though, I think any difficulty in finding them is their (quasi)-obscurity rather than an overwhelming demand.

In the late 90s there was a compilation called Disco 54: The AVI Collection that is the only anthology I know about for the label. It didn't have Le Spank on it, but does include "Cocomotion," "Let's Get It Together" and "Lust." -- Graff

Played this out last night. A good decision. Then straight into Roy Ayers as a pick me up.

You know which track always absolutely KILLS it? "Holy Ghost" by the Bar Kays. God, it never gets old. I fucking loooove that one.

"Willie and The Hand Jive" is great.

Also good stuff on AVI:

Dee D. Jackson - Automatic Lover (sort of a proto-italo number, there's a video on Youtube with a robot that is great)
Eastbound Expressway - Never Let Go (funky boogie-ish number)
7th Avenue - Miami Heat Wave (nice uptempo disco)
