Coldplay to release singles collection
The compilation is out in the spring

Coldplay are to release their first ever singles collection in the spring.

'The Singles 1999-2006' box set is out on March 26, and will include all 14 of the band's singles together for the fist time ever. Each single will be pressed on heavyweight 7" vinyl and sleeved in its original artwork. There will be no CD release.

The box set will contain five singles which have never previously appeared on 7". They include the band's 1999 debut EP 'The Blue Room', which has been split into two 7" singles.

The box set will also feature the international singles, 'Don't Panic', 'God Put A Smile Upon Your Face' and 'What If', none of which were released in the UK.

The collection will also include 'The Hardest Part', from 2005's 'X&Y' LP, which was previously only available as a download in the UK.

Worldwide sales of X&Y were THAT disappointing, eh?

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Thursday, 1 February 2007 13:55 (eighteen years ago)

10m is not enough.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Thursday, 1 February 2007 13:56 (eighteen years ago)

14 7"s isn't going to shift 10m.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Thursday, 1 February 2007 13:57 (eighteen years ago)

The early singles go for quite a bit of money on eBay.

I really don't understand the point of this. I don't think there are really that many vinyl aficiandos out there are there? The only other reason why I could imagine people wanting it is as a collector's item because they just had to have everything Coldplay.

Eno is producing their next album

I don't think there are really that many vinyl aficiandos out there are there that would be interested in Coldplay singles.

Hoosteen (Hoosteen), Thursday, 1 February 2007 20:40 (eighteen years ago)

They're probably doing this to support the unfairly treated vinyl farmers of the world.

StanM (StanM), Thursday, 1 February 2007 20:40 (eighteen years ago)

Eno is producing their next album

Wait, what would Coldplay sound like if they were a Brian Eno band? Also, what if they feel especially grumpy and discontent in the studio? Why, they may just as well rerelease...

7"s aren't for afficiandos. 7"s are for kids without record players. They're like posters.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Friday, 2 February 2007 21:17 (eighteen years ago)

eno did produce one song on x&y. it wasn't very surprising. I think he could do a good job and they could do a good album together but they're going to have to wait until they have enough good songs. the first album works because the songs are great; the albums have been diminishing returns since

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 2 February 2007 21:54 (eighteen years ago)

I listened to All That You Can't Leave Behind for the first time a week or two ago and realized where the whole post-Parachutes Coldplay sound stems from - and so Eno would be a natural fit for them.

A Tiny Footpath (Bimble...), Saturday, 3 February 2007 03:48 (eighteen years ago)

Seriously though I think Kyle is right, they just don't have the songs (yet?). I'm surprised to hear Eno was involved on X&Y, I didn't know that. Dismal record.

A Tiny Footpath (Bimble...), Saturday, 3 February 2007 03:49 (eighteen years ago)

Coldplay do what they do very well. Saddly what they do is write the same type of music over and over again. Parachutes actually was a acceptable cd and there are some cuts on it that are good. Some of their b-sides are also somewhat listenable. X&Y was an attempt to sound artsy without achieving that goal. IT was a plead to Brian Eno, it was a hope to change to something actually abstract. One thing can be learned from this. Coldplay can't write for shit.

Timbaland produces the new Streets album?

wesley useche (electronicmaji), Saturday, 3 February 2007 07:18 (eighteen years ago)

Brian Eno is a good choice. They really should have worked with Nigel Godrich though.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Saturday, 3 February 2007 15:24 (eighteen years ago)

If Coldplay worked with Nigel Godrich, wouldn't they just be Travis?

Aleeshie (Aleeshie), Saturday, 3 February 2007 21:33 (eighteen years ago)

Isn't that what Geir wants?

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Saturday, 3 February 2007 21:49 (eighteen years ago)

If Coldplay worked with Nigel Godrich, wouldn't they just be Travis?

Travis with better songs, a better frontman, and somewhat harder guitars.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Sunday, 4 February 2007 00:04 (eighteen years ago)

somewhat harder guitars? geir, seriously, wtf, go and listen to some fucking Mclusky and report back later

to scour or to pop? (Haberdager), Sunday, 4 February 2007 01:49 (eighteen years ago)

I said somewhat, not considerably. :)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Sunday, 4 February 2007 21:57 (eighteen years ago)

Travis---Mclusky---does not compute.

from The ends of your fingers (prosper.strummer.), Sunday, 4 February 2007 22:02 (eighteen years ago)

How could I be so silly? Coldplay + Eno would probably sound something like House of Love's Love in a Car. Pop music is a science, yes.

Cunga (Cunga), Tuesday, 6 February 2007 03:51 (eighteen years ago)

Coldplay + Eno would be slightly more tolerable than Paul SImon + Eno. I'd only have to rip one ear off and start screaming.

Lobster N. Scrimp (lobsternscrimp), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 21:25 (eighteen years ago)

Timbaland producing Coldplay might be a bit like William Orbit producing Blur: Might turn out interesting, but don't expect it to sound like a typical Timbaland production.
