seems they're still active (not to be confused with Tobi Vail's the Go Team) - Memphis Industries claims a new album's in the making.

i just watched a movie on fox movie channel that, upon watching it, turns out to be the movie that the go team took their cheerleadering samples fromit's called GIMME AN F and it is all about cheerleading http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gimme_an_%27F%27there is a team called the fudge falcons and another team called the moline ducksit's RIDICULOUS and of course highly recommended

reposted for anyone who still cares about the go team
the cheers they sampled were all from the "champion" team and at one point they were all wearing silver glitter covered keds. very little nudity in this movie, but an extremely gay dance sequence involving the male cheerleading teacher and a large communal shower.

played the debut last night for first time in a long time and fell in love with it all over again.

here's a clip of the squad from the movie. none of the clips from the song are on youtube, but they were instantly recognizable in the movie. there are other cheerleading sequences, but WOW are they ridiculous. if you like bad movies, this is a really good one.

there's also a scene where they turn on the power to a loudspeaker and it very plainly says, "the power is ON"

new track on soundcloud : http://soundcloud.com/thegoteam/t-o-r-n-a-d-o
same brickwall of sound. same chant outs (real as opposed to sampled).
not as addicitve of earlier material, but a good starting point for the album.

quite like TORNADO. a lot more discordant than they used to do. that ft. Best Coast song is a lot better than it should be, toohttp://soundcloud.com/thegoteam/the-go-team-buy-nothing-day

A smile comes across my face everytime that NFL commercial comes on with the Atlanta Falcons and a bunch of kids on buses having a great time while "The Power Is On" plays.

buy nothing day is a song i enjoy
― johnny crunch, Thursday, 6 January 2011 02:05 (thirteen years ago) link
That's also my favorite. The album has something of a Junior Senior feel to it to go along with the usual Go Team drumming and instrumentation.

Yeah "Buy Nothing Day" is great, and I reckon it's their best LP yet too.
― Simon H., Thursday, 6 January 2011 02:32 (thirteen years ago) link
I've only played just heard Rolling Blackouts today and I'm shocked how much I'm enjoying it. The production is so good and the songs are as strong as the first album.
They seem to have followed exactly the same pattern as the Scissor Sisters, great debut followed by hugely disappointing second album then getting it just right for the third album. Proof of youth sounded so rushed and I don't think I've played it since it came out but I think this one will be getting played a lot.

"Buy Nothing Day" is great, but if I didn't know who it was I'd have guessed The Pains of Being Pure at Heart or suchlike. I like them best when they're not being a straightahead rock group.
Thunder, Lightning, Strike is one of my favourite albums of the last decade, but somehow I didn't feel any need to pay attention to them for a long time after that (I think I've heard Proof of Youth once). I'm keen to hear Rolling Blackouts now, though.

where did the go team! go?
― Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 13 January 2011 00:50 (thirteen years ago) link
The other day I listened to Thunder, Lightning, Strike on Spotify and it sounded absolutely horrible compared to my own copy, as in almost unlistenable. I think it was the first time I heard the "remixed" version with live vocals and recreated samples; is it actually that bad? Or maybe it was just Spotify's compression.

This is mostly great. Best Coast singer should join permanently.

Title track (with Best Coast person) is pretty perfect MBV/Lush pastiche.

No mention of the Whyte Horses 2015 album Pop Or Not here? Ian Parton is one of the guests on it. Don't know exactly on what songs but a couple definitely sound 'rather go-team-esque'.
