posted this on the "You Tube thread for late 70's/early 80's post punk new wave gems that will set your pants on fire!" thread, but i think that it deserves a thread of its own:

just for shits and giggles, i found this 1983, um, "gem" on youtube last night. i mean, if these guys aren't to "new wave" what Grim Reaper was to 80s british metal -- or greta was to generic 90s grunge -- then i don't know what is! a shame that -- unlike grim reaper or greta -- these guys weren't featured on "beavis and butthead," the mind reels @ what kind of reaction they would've had to "dog police."

i mean, "dog police" has their own wikipedia page (and yet marissa marchant does not, o the humanity!)

as a representation of kinda sorta devo-esque early 80s new wave pop from god-knows-where-in-america, i guess it kinda makes sense. as does those third-rate chess king-in-youngstown-ohio approximations of "new romantic" clothes -- i mean, if you compare dog police's threads to what, say, ultravox were wearing a few years or so before then midge et. al. didn't look THAT much less embarrassing did they?!?

I remember that video from the MTV Basement Tapes contest where viewers called in to vote for their favorite video from an unsigned act. Digney Fignus "Girl With The Curious Hand" was one of the other contestants I believe.
