I'm listening to "Last Christmas" right now and it's great. Is it the test of a good Christmas song that you can listen to it in early April, or is it a sign that its seasonal qualities are somehow failures?

What songs do you listen to extra-seasonally? (Not just Christmas songs - do you like listening to 'Summer' songs in Winter, etc.)

The worst Xmas song ever is the one mentioned in Nick Hornby's crappy 'About A Boy', which the annoying lead character lives off, as his dad wrote it. Although it doesn't actually exist, you just know it's shite. When I was a lad we used to sing 'Last Xmas, I gave you my heart, the very next day you gave it way, this year, I'll buy you a beer, a can of Carlsberg Special (special)', which cheers me up all year round.

Right now I'm listening to the Taiji Boys live album from December93 and they sing a few christmas songs. But I can't understand Korean so I don't hear any of the christmasy lyrics. (oh wait, they are doing winterwonderland in English)

I prefer my Beach Boys surfin' and sports car songs on warm, sunny days, I must say, but I'll listen to Low's Christmas anytime. I play my 12" of Christmas Wrapping exactly once a year, as close to Xmas eve as feasible, depending on what I'm doing that year.

I heard this great song last Christmas called 'I want a boy for Christmas'. Suzy Quatro was playing it on her radio 2 show. Anyone know this and who it's by? I would quite happily listen to it again in April.

Has anyone heard the Servotron one called something like 'Mass Destruction of Humans on Chrstmas Day' 'cos it's fucking ace. Heard it on the radio years ago, and found it on Audiogalaxy recently. Top, and indeed top.

I'll second Spector, also quite good is Maria Carrie's Spector pastiche 'All I want for Xmas is You' and I really, really, REALLY like The Cocteau Twins cover of 'Frosty The Snowman'.

I was listening to Chet Baker's Christmas album from '86. Honestly, his Silent Night made me weepy. Got me thinking about opening a vessel rather than opening presents, but in the nicest way.
