Tours where an aging support act absolutely obliterates the young, hungry headliners

How 'bout the opposite of the young openers/aging headliners thread - where a seasoned act goes on first and schools the headlining youngsters?

My vote: The Raincoats opening for Liz Phair, NYC, 1994. The Raincoats were absolutely mesmerizing; I left four songs into Liz Phair, absolutely bored.

How did Superchunk fare on that tour opening for Get Up Kids? Didn't see it myself.

The first thing that came to mind was Hokie Mokie and Hideo Yamaguchi: http://www.csusm.edu/profe/441king.htm

A couple of months ago I saw Flipper open for the Melvins/Big Business. Buzz and Co were on form (they were better when they played Houdini in its entirety the year before) but Flipper just blew them off stage. I wish their catalogue wasn't deleted.

Not that I saw it, and not that Pearl jam are young or hungry, but didn't Sonic Youth open for them recently? I wouldn't be pressed to beleieve they could obliterate Pearl Jam live.

I'd like to think this happened when Townes Van Zandt supported Tindersticks, but it probably didn't.

I believe there was a time in the late 80s when Aerosmith did this to G'N'R, but I could be wrong.
