Enya by like a million miles. Her music is actually pretty catchy and I've like more than a few dancehall tracks which have ripped off "Caribbean Blue" or whatever. I don't know that I've knowingly ever heard Tesh or Yanni, but Kenny G, Bolton and Celine Dion are just plain awful.

Enya is actually good!

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Thursday, 8 February 2007 00:08 (eighteen years ago)

Haha yeah this is more like which one of these things is not like the other. If Enya wasn't there I would def. be lost.

Tesh is #1 for all his awesome sports themes!

polyphonic (polyphonic), Thursday, 8 February 2007 00:50 (eighteen years ago)

Didn't Yanni do all the sports themes?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 8 February 2007 00:50 (eighteen years ago)

didn't Cyndi Lauper do I Drove All Night?

Fjord Spellman (fjord), Thursday, 8 February 2007 00:58 (eighteen years ago)

Didn't Yanni do all the sports themes?

Actually, Tesh and Yanni both have done a bunch of sports themes! Neither of them have done anything really noteworthy in that arena, though.

John Tesh wrote the "NBA on NBC" theme. The greatest piece of music of the 20th century. So he wins by a mile.

fjord:

that is, in fact, a cyndi lauper song.

oh well, that's not surprising i guess. i'm still going with celine, though, because she did "it's all coming back to me now" which is equally ridiculous.

Speaking of Tesh's NBA on NBC theme:

LISTEN TO IT IN ALL ITS GLORY.

Tesh is pulling ahead after the Enya messup, although Celine D and Yanni seem to be at least getting a little response. What no love for G or Bolton?!!?

Which way is this gonna go??

exciting!!!!!!!!!!

From Wikipedia:

At the conclusion of the 1990 NBA Finals, CBS, who had televised National Basketball Association games since 1973, would lose the rights to NBC. John Tesh was in his hotel room at 3 o'clock in the morning in the city of Pau, while covering the Tour de France. Tesh already had received an Emmy for his music for the Pan American Games in 1983 and composed other sports television music prior to Roundball Rock, including the theme song played during CBS' Tour de France coverage in the late 1980s.
"It just came into my head. So I called my message machine and sang the chorus. Then I called back 30 minutes later and sang the verse." - John Tesh
When Tesh got home, he played the song that would soon become known as Roundball Rock on the piano. He also watched a NBA game and played the music to the approximate speed of a fast break (122 beats per minute). After paying $15,000 to have a Los Angeles orchestra record the song, he sent a tape to NBC and the rest is history.

How cool is the fast break thing? John Tesh fucking rules.
